ChrisS Posted December 7, 2003 Posted December 7, 2003 Looked through a pretty wide variety of colors yesterday, but didn't find anything that seemed dark enough for the blue. I'm going to use Polyscale Dark Sea Blue mixed with a little black unless some kind soul would like to point me to an "exact" color for Brit Insignia Blue. I'm pretty confident of getting the Yellow, Red, and White correct, but this darned blue has me worried... Anyone? TIA~ Chris
Chris/Germany Posted December 7, 2003 Posted December 7, 2003 Hy Chris, don t know the polyscale colours but think I can give you a essential tip to reach a matching colour because I had to mix it for myself a few times ( and as a house-painter/ Painterman, which has been my job for 20 years, I think ´m qualified for that): you need to add a little red into a normal, dark blue to get a satisfiyin´result because this insignia blue is nearer to a dark violet then a to dark blue. Only addin´ a bit of black won´t work ´cause blue and black gives a kind of brown! hope this helps cheers Chris
Tony O Posted December 8, 2003 Posted December 8, 2003 Chris beat me to it, but I'd agree and I'd add a small amount of red and then darken the result with a little black. Add the red first to stop the black turning the blue a gungy grey brown. Be wary of using ready mixed blues and reds and try and use primary colours to mix. The reason is that some interesting results can occur because you won't know which pigments were mixed to create your Polyscale 'starter' colour. Brick Red can be a bugger to get right too! you could try mixing a purple and a turquoise which could result in a dark blue. links to colour mixing: http://www.mauigateway.com/~donjusko/tubecolors.htm http://www.zest-it.com/colour_mixing1.htm http://www.artistsanon.co.uk/colour_hints_...for_artists.htm HTH Tony
