Revell 1/32 Duo Discus

From one extreme (Tamiya's F-16) to another, this quick build of the Revell 1/32 Duo Discus.

This kit is really beautiful, it goes together easily with a nice number of parts and enough in the cockpit to set things off under the nice blue-tinted canopy.

No prizewinning cockpit job here, I just did a 'custom' given that these gliders in real life tend to vary a lot, often with the buyer choosing an interior like you would when buying a car..

Thanks Kev..actually I'm cheating a little as a bunch of the photos were taken a few days ago nonetheless I'm up to decal stage and will post a few more pics to catch up

I chose to use Tamiya primer for the first time, airbrushed (well thinned!) So as to give the final white a chance to pop!

Provided it is applied just 'wet', it gives a beautiful finish that shrinks down to be ultra thin with a good 'key' to the plastic

Primed up and now its gloss time!

For the final white finish I decided to use Tamiya basic gloss white (X-2). I thought I would not go the clear coat route since these gliders in real life are gel-coated white and don't have a secondary clear coat (as far as I could tell up close)

Painted up and ready for decals

I made very good use of a 'tack cloth' during all of the painting, it really helps to grab those awful little hairs and also seems to reduce the static charge on the surface of the part - much much less debris!

Canopy is just sat in place - will mask it up and paint it then glue him closed with micro Krystal klear ..

The final sheen is not a perfect mirror gloss, but for a quick build I'm happy with it, besides I'm not sure how Tamiya acrylics would respond to a bit of polishing :/

A few of the decals applied with Micro Set and Micro Sol, first time using these products and I really like the results - note in the picture I had just applied a second coat of Micro Sol..so the decals are well wrinkled!
