  1. This is the second part of a commission build. Two years ago I finished an Avro Lancaster 35th Squadron for a museum display regarding fellow Norwegian Johan Koren Christie: https://forum.largescaleplanes.com/index.php?/topic/90915-hk-models-avro-lancaster-raf-35th-squadron/#comment-1305054 This time it's Johan's brother Werner Christie that is the subject of my model. Werner together with his brother fled occupied Norway, attended Pilot training at Little Norway Toronto. Returned to Europe and UK after finished flight school. Served first in 331 Sq. and later in 332 as Squadron chief. Transferred to the British 234th Squadron, later Wing Commander of the 150 Wing. and spent the last weeks of WW2 as a POW after a bail out over Northern Germany. This model will go into the same exhibition as his brothers Avro Lancaster and some personal items including his medals on loan from the family. The model is supposed to represent Werner's D-Day ride. The 18" invasion stripes were painted on in a very crude manner on the 5th of June.... 332 Operated from Bognor Regis in the summer of 44. Bognor was wire mesh covered: I have tried to replicate that for the base. All in all not a perfect result, but at least a very interesting and historical subject. I really do enjoy when history and modelling come together! Tamiya Spit, Resin from Barracuda, figure Ultra Cast with a hornet head, HGW seat harness and decals from fellow Norwegian Vingtor Decals. Figure painted by my good friend Cato N!
  2. Folks: I've done some looking around and I can't seem to find definitive measurements for the WWII Invasion stripes for a P-51 Mustang. Wikipedia says this: The stripes were five alternating black and white stripes. On single-engine aircraft each stripe was to be 18 inches (46 cm) wide, placed 6 inches (15 cm) inboard of the roundels on the wings and 18 inches (46 cm) forward of the leading edge of the tailplane on the fuselage. National markings and serial number were not to be obliterated. I figure someone here has a quick answer...so what do you think? I thought the wing stripes were a different width than the fuselage stripes. Thanks in advance! Chris
  3. If weather holds - my buddy Allan and I are off to the UK leg of the D-Day remembrance events at Lee-on-Solent tomorrow in Allan's '44, ex USAAF Piper Cub to join a fleet of C-47s and some other interesting machinery and people. Over-nighting there - then due south on Wednesday - across the Channel to Cherbourg. Weather looking varied at present - so we'll see how far we get - but hopefully spend rest of the week in and around Normandy. The aircraft served in France after D-Day and subsequently was taken on charge by the post war French Air Force - before going on the civil register in the 1950's. Will take lots of photo's and post any particularly interesting ones here. Bit of a special trip - for the aeroplane as well as us - wish us luck!! Iain
