  1. Hey Texas!! Wow!! AWESOME Cat!!!!!!! I have one in the stash that I hope turns out as well as yours --and I'd be VERY happy...... Yes, and on with the big A-10 build!!! I should receive the AM stuff I ordered in about another week, so I am ready to go when you are! Qwik- (Mick)
  2. Matt- I have the Aires pit for the A-7D (and I bought the wheel well set) and I will tell you they are fantastic!! I have the BB sets for the F-16 (A plus C), F-15C and F-15E and while they are good, Aires is much better. The crispness of the casting is the best way to describe the difference. I have not begun the A-7 yet, but I can't wait just seeing the details evident. I want to improve my skills a little more before I feel I can do it the justice it deserves! Bottom line, IF Aires had made pits for the F-16, and F-15's at the time I bought the kits , I would cetainly have gotten their pits!! Attached is a link that may help in your decision: http://forum.largescaleplanes.com/index.ph...=Aires&st=0 Also, here is a review of the Aires pit and wheel set from Brett Green: http://acc.kitreview.com/aires2055reviewbg_1.htm I hope this helps. 3. Thanks guys-- Mark--excellent link and I saved it to my Favs..... I looked through it and it has the answers to the "rest" of my questions..... Viper- EXACTLY the info I was looking for in a concise format!! Looks like this one doesn't get the Big Mouth intake after all. As ususal you guys cam through with MORE info than I asked for, just another example of how AWESOME this site is!! Qwik- quote name='Viper Enforcer' date='Jan 16 2008, 02:16 PM' post='141500'] Here's the run down The NSI (Small Mouth) intake was fitted to all production F-16As, Block 25, and 32/42/52 F-16Cs. The MCID (Big Mouth) intake was fitted to late Block 30s, "SN 86-0262" on up. Early Block 30s before SN 86-0262 had the NSI intake. Production Block 40 and Block 50 F-16s all have the MCID intake. Also not all Production Block 30/40/50 F-16 also have the GE Motor/exhaust. Cutting Edge makes both the NSI (not really needed as the kit one is fine) and MCID intake sets. Mike V
  4. Guys-- I am confused as to which intake this kit should have...I am in the research phase, and found that the aircraft is a block 25/32. The "big mouth" intake is supposed to be on block 30 aircraft, but does this one apply? Are there any other aftermarket parts that you would receommend forhtis build as well/ Thanks in advance, cuz I know you guys will have the answers..... Qwik-
  5. Thanks guys--sounds like I should stick (no pun intended) with BMF.......... Qwik-
  6. Guys- Is Testors Ultra Thin Krome Foil the same as Bare Metal Foil? I need a material for masking canopies, and I have read abou BMF, I'm just not sure if the Testors foil is equivalent? Any other suggestions? Thanks! Qwik-
  7. KOTR- I'll pick up some mineral spirits, seems that it's everywhere! As for the Future, Wal Mart it is!! Turpenoid is available locally, but they want $24.99 for 16oz. (no way!!). Health issues aren't THAT big of a concern yet....... And you are correct, no Muller chemists here.... I re-looked at your "K" again, I'll tell ya, that is one really fine looking bird!!! Lots of inspiration there!! I can't wait to get the EE pit to start the paint on that, as it will be my first shot at wash and weathering. Thanks again, and I'll post a couple more questions later this weekend--it'll give you a chance to catch your breath! Qwik-
  8. KOTR- Thanks again for the generous offer to help, and the advice!! It truly has been both inspiring and helpful! I've been doing more research (look out!!), and I see you mentioned "white spirits", to thin your weathering which I will assume is white mineral spirits. I have seen mentioned a thinner called Turpenoid. That stuff is very expensive, so I'm wondering, since the purpose is the same--thinning down the oils for the weathering, can I use that as well?? BTW-Where did you get the white mineral spirits? I already picked up the oils, so now only the thinner is all that is left to get so I can do my first weathering job!! I need to get some Future too, (I think WalMart carries that)....if that is not the case, please let me know where you got yours as well. I totally understand the childhood feelings!! I have had Christmas the last 3 weeks in a row!!! This stuff is definitely addicting!! Thanks again!! Qwik-
  9. KOTR- EXCELLENT advice and tips!!! I will book mark and save this method of weathering --- and true--the worst part is the wait for parts and paint!!! I am working on some other planes in the meantime, so the wait won't be that bad, we're coming up on modeling season (winter) so this is perfect timing! Thanks again for all your help and advice!! Qwik-
  10. KOTR- Again thankyou for your excellent advice!! I actually have the choice of Testors acrylic or enamel. My existing collection of paint is all enamel. But, as you pointed out I will be getting mine through the net/mail as well, and the supplier has a choice of either type, the acrylic has a better selection. I will be doing the pit and details in enamel--do you see a problem shooting acrylic over the rest of the plane for the camo? The wash will be the other paint that I use--meaning for enamel details I'll wash with acrylic, and for the acrylic camo wash, I'll use an enamel mixture--any issues wi that?? Qwik- BTW-I ordered the EE stuff today! hte
  11. KOTR- One other thing I noticed in my search for info, most of the references I have found use Gunze brand of paints. Is there a reason other than convenience? I typically use Testors/Model Masters, do you recommend at least for the camo work to go with Gunze, or stay with what I normally use? Thanks! Qwik-
  12. KOTR-- Now that's the ticket, Chris's is an AWESOME build up of the K-4!! I'm ordering mine this week with the goodies from EE you outlined!! Thanks again for all your help!!! Qwik-
  13. KOTR- Thanks so much for the info!!! I looked again at the weathering you did on the bottom of the plane, and I am in total AWE and admiration!!! That is truly superior work!! I looked at the pit and the spinner from Eagle Editions and will most likely get them both. A couple more questions if I might....Do you think the Eagle Editions instrument panel is good enough, as I couldn't tell from the web site if they have decals or PE for the instruments, or do you simply paint them in? Should I get the Eduards inrerior set to get the IP stuff? What did you do on yours? Overall, what is your opinion on the EE Instrument panel? Thanks again for your hwelp, and I going to order by the end of the week, after receiving your input! Qwik-
  14. KOTR_ AWESOME build!!!!!!!!!! That is one fine looking bird!!!! I see what you did with it, but did you have any issues?? On the pit, do you think it needs an AM source (sorry I don't know what EE stands for) to really set it off? Thanks for sharing!! QWik-
  15. Guys- Any reviews or builds of this kit? I'm considering buying it, and would like to know up front what needs upgraded (cockpit, markings, etc..) and what if any difficulties there may be with it. Thanks in advance! Qwik-
  16. Maverick- I am not good enough to scratch build anything of that magnitude......... I appreciate the offer on the line drawings, but I think I'll stick with what's available in 1/48 scale. From what I understand from a few reviews-- the Monogram kit sems to be a little better--anyone care to share their opinion(s) as to which kit-- Monogram or Revell is a better quality kit to get?? Thanks again for all the excellent unputs!! Qwik-
  17. Guys-- This is probably a long shot......but is there a source for a 1/32 A(T)-37 out there???? Thanks! Qwik-
  18. Thanks Randy and Ray!!!! One last thing, are there any sources for the figures like the ones that come with the Tamiya 1/32 F-4E's? Qwik-
  19. Guys-- My first post!! And it's a question!! I'm doing a Revel F-4F (1/32 of course!!) but as a National Guard bird in euro paint scheme, and I would like to put some pilots in the aircraft. I just can't seem to find a source for them....any help on this is GREATLY appreciated!! BTW--this site is AWESOME!!! I've been lurking and cruising the member builds as I'm re-entering the fray after a nearly 30 year absence...it has changed quite a bit, but I'm getting up to speed on the "new"(resin, PE, placards, etc....) stuff available, but the scratchbuilding that you guys are doing is STUNNING!!! I guess that's the biggest change I've noticed, the AWESOME detail, and the guys also SHOW the methods they used to get the details you see, that just blows me away................ So, please help an "old" guy out............ Thanks in advance!! Qwik-
