  1. Building this as part of the BOB groupbuild on Britmodeller. The Mig has stalled slightly. But I'll go back to it soon. I seem to have a bit of a WWII urge at the moment. I hope I haven't bitten off more than I can chew here. It's the largest kit I've ever attempted. (wingspan according to box is 71cm). The box is HUGE! Has a typical Revell art work on the top. Seems like a million parts. Will be oob apart from some additional swastikas on the tail and if I can get them fast enough some PE belts. Will make a start on Saturday. When SWMBO and the kids are out Half the fuselage next to a 1/72 spitfire. There's no nose glass in on this so there's even more length.
  2. I panicked at first. It was first time I'd used the Tamiya stuff wet. Painted the engine really well. Then the whole thing turned blue with the burnt metal powder. So I gave it a wipe and plodded on.
  3. It was the same as the engine for oil stains - typhus corrosion Warhammer wash, Tamiya weathering makeup and a thin black wash, muddy look was just the typhus corrosion wash.
  4. I was a little worried about going overboard. I know a lot of the WWII stuff wouldn't really have lasted long enough to weather too much.
  5. There's a bit of an issue with the engine covers. There's a sizable gap between them. But If you spend enough time getting the engine just right shouldn't be too much of a problem. I had heard that you could build up the cowling parts and slide them over the engine but I was going for everything on display. The only other problem I had was on the wing cannons I knocked one off while fitting the engine. But you can't tell
  6. Just managed to finish this up. Started it to stop the boredom setting in while building my 32nd Mig-29. The Mig has reached a point where I've still got bored of it. But this was a lovely little kit. Tested out some new weathering techniques. Used Tamiya weathering powder, Warhammer Typhus Corrosion Technical paint and Nuln oil wash on the engine plus the undercarriage, bays and to recreate mud splat. Tried chipping with a sponge on the wings and walkway areas. It's my first attempt at a German WWII camouflage. I'm really pleased with the result of this one. Getting a view in the cockpit is a little hard to do with my camera. The final touches of the Swastikas will be applied too thanks to the Generosity of BiggTim
  7. Getting close with the 190. Needs bombs, fuel tanks and a few odds and sods. A matt cote and she'll be done. I'm impressed with the weathering my skills are improving I think. I'd better crack on with the Mig...
  8. I did think it'd be odd for Revell to mis-mold by that much on a new kit. Shouldn't be a huge step so I might be able to correct it The weathering was really easy. I painted as per Revell's instructions then smothered the whole lot in wateryTamiya weathering powders then painted over with the Warhammer Typhus Corrosion technical paint and then gave the lot a nice wash
  9. Well one of them is on her wheels. The Mig has stalled temporarily while I do some work on the 190 Some weathering done. Going to do a little chipping next. Plus paint U/C doors and bomb racks. Then clear coat. The only things left after that are the bombs. I've seen a technique for the bombs to give them the cast look by undercoating them with Tip-ex first which I might try.
  10. Here's an update. It stalled a little bit when some other kits arrived as usual. So I was playing around with a Revell 1/32nd FW190 too. Here's where I am so far. Had a go at fixing the HUD housing as best I could looks a lot better now. One question though should there be a droop in the wings? I can't see a way of rectifying it though if there shouldn't now the Fuselage is all buttoned up. But this is the other one I've been playing around with. Trying out some weathering and Warhammer technical paint
  11. Incredible work Peter. Making me want to start mine. I already have 3 kits on the go though. What is that stand? Where can I get one in the UK?
  12. That's a stunning model. Love the metallic finish on it. Great work. Loved the WIP too. Some good tips there.
  13. Thanks Teresa It's at £32 at the moment so not a huge amount but still has a week to go Guess I'd better post those last 3 posts to allow access to the Ebay section
  14. Fingers crossed. I've removed the link until I can get enough posts to put in proper place.
  15. Don't know if this is allowed but I'm selling this on ebay to raise money for Cancer Research. Nearly everyone I know has been affected by Cancer at some stage of their life. So please help either by sharing it or bidding. If this isn't allowed then I'm happy to remove it. Link removed by me due to reading eBay links rules. Sorry. I'll post in the proper section once I reach enough posts.
  16. Stunning work Peter. I'll be keeping this thread in my favorites to use as a handy guide when building my 32nd scale Academy Sufa that's arriving today Although it's already intimidating me based on reviews and the Academy F/A-18c I also have in the stash.
  17. I've had this today. The kit has a nice rendition of the Jumo engine. However it seems to have a 2 peice cowling which completely covers it. I have no idea which panels to open or remove. Can anyone help me?
  18. Bit more done with the cockpit. Probably not very accurate but again I like it.
  19. So had a go at the K36 ejection seat. I think it looks good.
  20. Few extra sprue shots. I've started in the place where nearly every aircraft kit I've built starts. The Bang seat. It's all glued together and undercoated. So no picture just yet. I'll get some later. I've seen a walkaround of the ejection seat and there is wear round the headbox where the black leather is cracked and showing the brown underneath. Any ideas on how to recreate this?
  21. I'm going to have a go at a WIP for my next project. Seems that whenever I do a WIP I run out of steam and the model gets moved to the Shelf Of DOOM! But here we go. This is Trumpeter's 1/32 Mig-29M. I think most people know about the Mig-29 so I won't bore you with too many details. It was originally conceived, along with the Sukhoi SU-27 to provide a match to the US F-X programme. The Mig-29M made it's first public appearance at the 1994 Farnborogh Airshow as the Mig-33. Nato#s codename is the Fulcrum-E. On with the model itself. The box has nice painted picture of one of the inbox option Mig-29M's in flight. It's a typical heavy duty Trumpeter box with a lift off lid. On opening the box you are confronted with the two fuselage halves tied to a carboard sheet ala Academy. And another smaller box with exhaust's and some metal parts. In the kit there is a total of 23 sprues. Three of which are clear plastic for the canopy, IP and lights. Six (Trumpeter are including the fuselage halves) are for the aircraft itself then the other 14 are for the weapon stores and fuel tanks. It's all nicely molded with very little flash. There are a few seams and some ejection pin marks but unlike previous Trumpeter kits the ejection pin marks aren't in places that would be difficult to manage with. The canopy is moulded really nicely. Nice and clear with very little distortion plus, for a canopy this size, no seam line down the middle. There's a bit of dust on this one but that's no issue. Instructions are the normal Trumpeter fare too. With the paint callout for the plane and the weapons on a separate colour sheet. The decals and stencils are on two sheets. One for the markings of the two aircraft and another for the huge amount of stores available. They're in register though and look to be great fitting them will be the great decider. Detailing is well done. No detail in places that wouldn't be seen anywhere. The cockpit is well detailed. The IP is made up of three parts including a clear front and an acetate set of panels. The Mig-29M has 2 monochrome displays which are nicely represented. The ejector seat is made up of a total of 14 parts. Including PE seatbelts and a nicely moulded cushion. Should build up to a really good representation of the Mig's seat. This will depend on my skills I think. I need to work out how to do the broken leather look though from photo's I've seen. Rest of the sprues look good. As said flash is minimal to non-existant. Moulding is crisp and not too heavy. There's metal cores for the landing gear. Landing gear looks a little basic. But the real thing has quite basic looking gear anyway. I know there is an issue with the engine intake faces and FOD screens. But I'll be using some resin FOD covers. There's also a reported issue on the exhausts. The flame holders are fitted to the end of the nozzles. And could do with several feet of piping creating. So as my scratch building skills don't exist I'll be covering these too J But the rest will be all out of the box. The payload that's available in the box is 2 x R-27AE 2 x R-27T 2 x R-60MK 2 x R-73E 2 x R-77 2 x Kh-25ML 2 x Kh-25MP 2 x Kh-31P 2 x Kh-29L 2 x Kh-29T 2 x Kh-35A 2 x PTB-1150 external wing tanks 2 x PTB-1500 centerline tanks
  22. Thank you both. It was a fun build. I'm pleased with it and the spitfire. I'm considering a German pair next. Maybe a 109 and a Stuka.
  23. This one was a joy to build right up until the part where I decided to cover the engine. I wish I hadn't. There was more detailing to be done but a lot less filler and sanding would have been needed. Word of advice for anyone planning this one. Don't use the cowling on the engine. Let the engine all hang out on display..... Here she is with her stablemate Then just to decide what to build next. The Tomcat really could do with finishing...... I know I'm missing the wingtip lights. Waiting on some replacements from Airfix. Oh and I was building this alongside the spitfire. I'm not a machine or anything 😉
