  1. I painted up the display stand and applied one of the spare Duo Discus decals to give it a little interest! Black seemed right so as to not steal attention, and coated with a few layers of thinned Future
  2. G'day Scott..in my experience with both painting models and full size aircraft with 2pack polyurethane, fish eyes = presence of Silicone. We sometimes ran into fisheyes at work and it was always Silicone contamination, in many cases the use of medical syringes to mix up a small amount of paint while being really handy, led to the black rubber plunger leaching silicone into the paint. Our solution was to clean the rubber with MEK or acetone - very aggressive solvents and they removed the silicone from the prep gear and spray guns. Paint is really sensitive to this, even 'tough' 2pack polyurethane. Check out the lubricant used in your airbrush, if that contains silicone or Teflon then definitely will cause problems. Hope that helps!
  3. Hi Pascal, that's a great idea i shall try applying turtle wax I really enjoy these forums and all the great ideas and advice that otherwise I'd have no idea about! In the meantime I've finished the red nose decals - I was unsure how these would work out but with a little bit of Micro Set and Sol they are perfect! I'm pretty amazed by the results this setting solutions give - totally great when those clear edges that I'd usually have to trim just disappear!!
  4. Thankyou Eric that's a really great idea - definitely the most suitable way of displaying these elegant things! I painted up the supplied stand also so I can alternate between the two
  5. ...unbelievable Karl!!! A true piece of 3D art. How are you going to display this beauty? I would love a company to come out with quality display cases for our large scale planes!
  6. G'day guys well I just glued the canopy on with Kristal Klear, strapped down lightly with tape to get minimal seam while the glue dries. I cleaned up the excess with a moistened cotton tip, this is the first time I've used this stuff and it seems pretty good! Some more decals applied also - so nice to put them onto a glossy white surface.
  7. G'day Matt, lucky guy having one in your stash..apparently they are now discontinued and this one I ordered from eBay came with unusable decals - they looked like they had been through the wash! I searched almost all the toy shops in Queensland and found another one in mint condition..so I have 2 airframes and luckily the decal sheet has so many great looking options I can finish both ;')
  8. Woops that was a "Micro-Sol has done its job" pic
  9. Thanks Eric It's certainly a nice change from military stuff..and just lovely at 1/32 scale! You have to hand it to Revell for their diverse subject matter! Ok so i just painted the canopy edge, this was tricky to mask as the inside frame edge is not in the same line as the external moulded edge. So a bit of judgement there.
  10. G'day Kevin well that's great advice - next white model I build I'll definitely just use primer and polish it up! Woops! So the tack cloth is just an open cotton gauze that's impregnated with some kind of silicone-free tacky substance. You can get them from paint supply places as well as industrial supply shops. Mine only cost $1.60 each and in Toowoomba I get them from Sedl agencies in town. I'll post up a photo! In using them I like to cut off a small segment and keep it in a zip-lock bag. You just lightly drag/wipe it over the surface immediately before spraying. I have a cat too who likes jumping into my spray booth to sleep!!!
  11. That's where I'm up to..parts of my F-16 lurk in the background! Yes I'll get to it!
  12. A few of the decals applied with Micro Set and Micro Sol, first time using these products and I really like the results - note in the picture I had just applied a second coat of Micro Sol..so the decals are well wrinkled!
  13. The final sheen is not a perfect mirror gloss, but for a quick build I'm happy with it, besides I'm not sure how Tamiya acrylics would respond to a bit of polishing :/
  14. Canopy is just sat in place - will mask it up and paint it then glue him closed with micro Krystal klear ..
  15. Painted up and ready for decals I made very good use of a 'tack cloth' during all of the painting, it really helps to grab those awful little hairs and also seems to reduce the static charge on the surface of the part - much much less debris!
  16. For the final white finish I decided to use Tamiya basic gloss white (X-2). I thought I would not go the clear coat route since these gliders in real life are gel-coated white and don't have a secondary clear coat (as far as I could tell up close)
  17. Provided it is applied just 'wet', it gives a beautiful finish that shrinks down to be ultra thin with a good 'key' to the plastic
