  1. a quickie! holmes hurri. was one of a 500 batch made by gloster aircraft co. ltd. of brockworth, england. it went to 504 as P2725 TM-B-----and can confirm rotol props. and spinner .
  2. no mate ---sorry, the d.h. spinner and prop shape cannot be mixed with the rotol combo. no mk. 1 spits that i know off flew operationally with the hurri. style rotol.. that came with the mk. 11 spit. but many mk.V spits. still used the d.h. combo. so---depends which hurri you are doing----almost certain the holmes option uses rotol spinner and prop blades (wooden by the way.) certainly TM-V (in fighter squadrons of the royal air force) clearly shows the rotol spinner etc. and i am aware that hurris. flew in the battle with yet another spinner!!!!!!! a slightly longer version of the d.h. petite one -----phew!!!!! look at the famous photo. of 17 squadron YB-J with the popye insignia. it is nearly impossible to be pedantic on any b.o.b. sceme-----so many changes happening quickly-----the old standbye---check photos of the one your'e doing------- but hey, a bit of artistic licence is o.k. isn't it. open up to any guys who can help here---loads of knowledge at our disposal----c'mon guys. cheers to all dave.
  3. hi nick, good foraging -----but at least the prop also. depends how far you want to go i suppose. could'nt do the holmes hurri though. remember she'll look great anyway. cheers.
  4. hi, pulled mine out the stash mate------- the nearest out the box for a b o b spit are items 31 and 32 on sprue C --forget the rest for a mk.1---- just in passing fuse. roundel dia. 35". out of box but you can do almost any size with xtradecals 48 scale sheet of A1's. cheers.
  5. thats the one, mate---easy to get rid-------if only everything was that easy!!!!!!! wish i had a camera----one is coming my way, but 'cos i'm an ancient example of the species it'll take me some time to get used to it no doubt. loads of super guys on site who are spit. wise. cheers mate.
  6. hi nick, yes mate -----you need the rotol ------trump hurri mk.1 has perfect rotol, but as i said earlier, the old airfix lady builds up even without "extra curriculum" as a real good looker, and captures the hurri's pugnacious air most superbly. i'm sure she'll turn out tops with you at the helm. all best, dave.
  7. nick, forgot to mention (shout at me if you already know) the intensifier tube for gun heating ---- the moulding just behind the exhaust opening----will need removing for mk. 1 or 11. sorry if i am a pain. dave.
  8. hi nick, guys. love your spit. check out the mdc site for resin d.h.spinner and prop. and much improved rad. and oil cooler etc. all the best mate. dave. p.s. aeromaster 32-18 post battle mk. 11 and v spits.(the92 squadron can be used in part to do a battle mk. 1) cheers.
  9. hi nick, yes, i think your dash looks great also. remember to change squadron codes if you manage to get spit spinner AND prop. (THE D.H. SPINNER CAN NOT BE USED WITY ROTOL PROP.) a good source of squadron codes are carpena sheets 32004 and 32005 and better 35 inch fuselage A1 roundel on xtradecal sheet xo32-48 use the 70inch one (35 inch in 24 scale) hope you do not mind me and do not think me preaching to the converted, best, dave.(i aint got a camera yet----sob, sob.)
  10. hi nick, now heres a one i love. i must have built six or seven airfix hurris and two trumps. over the years---too many years!!! the trunp is best in my humble. but the airfix is still a beaut. and i am looking forward to this build---plenty of pix. please. areas that cry out are------nose contours, wing tips(far to bulbous) and that godawful rotol spinner. got to be the ugliest spinner ever put on the front of any aeroplane--but because the entire nose of the airfix hurri is oversize the big spinner becomes even bigger!!!!!! if you can beg steal or borrow the de-havilland spinner and prop from the spit mk. 1----(even that is not exact for that spinner but near enough and it improves the look of the old girl no end) put it up front and change the markings. hope you do not mind me droning on but i just love the hurri. dave.
  11. hi guys, wish i had said what LSPDAVE just said!!!!! lets keep things in perspective. most of the builds on this site hover around the exquisite, some attain levels i can only dream of-----and i go back 50 years of exclusively trying to build aeroplane MODELS. BUT most modellers will be happy out of the box i suspect-------some like myself will happily add vac canopies, resin upgrades, aftermarket decals but only a relative few ------like some of you guys hit the dizzy hights. We all enjoy the HOBBY though. Happy and theraputic moddelling guys!
  12. hi, just an observation------only read reviews of trump. 190, but my understanding from them was that the cowl problem was not anything that a bit of "modelling skill" could not sort out, for what it is worth i feel trump. are a sort of "curates egg" -----good and bad----but so is just about everyone else! the trump. hurri. is the only one i know, in any scale, to get the nose contours-----and they are very difficult----spot on. i think they are getting very much better. just an opinion guys.
