that really rocks - fantastic build! Love the shark-mouth, are those decals with the kit?
-
This is looking fantastic - love it! Concerning the landing gear - how do the metal legs that come with the Aires wheel well set check out for accuracy and detail?
-
Yeah I sold off some CE resin along with a bunch of other 1/48 stuff a few years ago and was flabbergasted and what I got for them on eBay - felt almost embarassed frankly. Was a huge help to finance my new house though

Hi Thierry,
Thank you for the info even though disappointing! I think I will still proceed with doing this a/c and will have to figure it may not be 100% correct. I guess that gives me a little leeway to do it the way I want to - now I have to decide on doing the hump or not - difficult choice!
I have 2 sets of the CAM Shrikes and they look pretty nice in the box so maybe I will go with four - should look pretty good. On that note, does anyone have a good close up of the markings on that missle? There appears to be a data plate or black placard on the front side in the pics I have in the skyhawk references - I would like to make a decal for that as well as the color bands...
-
I currently have for reference:
- the Victory Productions A-4 Skyhawk Sheet 48004 - has profile and text description of the a/c in question
- Scooter - the A-4 Skyhawk Story by Tommy H Thomason
- US Navy & Marine Corps A-4 Skyhawk Units of the Vietnam War - has a profile and text description of the a/c in question but conflicts with the Victory Prod sheet
- A-4 Skyhawk Detail and Scale
I have on order:
- A-4 Skyhawk in Action (used)
- Colors and Markings of colorful A-4 Skyhawks (used)
- Douglas A-4E/F Skyhawk (Ginter)
for the build I am using the excellent tweak list posted here

Hiya,
I have started the Trumpeter 1/32 Skyhawk and was intending/hoping to build it as one of the aircraft flown by Michael Estocin flying off Ticonderoga with the Golden Dragons. I have the 1/48 scale decals from Victory Productions as a reference and thought I was all set (piecing 1/32 decals for the a/c from a couple sources) but still have some questions that I was hoping one of the Skyhawk gurus on the forum might be able to assist with?
- Are there any pictures of Estocin's aircraft at all while with 192? I have a pic of one a/c but from service with a different squadron - it is depicted on a Zotz sheet. Not been able to find any with Golden Dragons markings though (would like to do an a/c with his name on it)
-Victory Prod decal profile shows the aircraft without an avionics hump. Another reference (Ospreys Skyhawks in Vietnam) states that this squadron recieved the humps retrofitted to their A-4Es prior to the cruise and their profile reflects that. Can anyone confirm one way or the other?
-Victory states that the likely load out for his missions were four Shrike and a centerline tank for Iron Hand. Does this loadout seem likely? I have not seen any pics of A-4s with four Shrike loaded at once. I believe the citation states he took out three SAM sites on one mission so maybe four Shrike is pretty accurate?
-for the centerline tank, is the 400 gal likely for this? I assume Fisher models offering would be good for it?
I have a few additional reference books on order but unsure if they will provide any answers to these. Also done a fair amount of online searches but to no avail.
Thanks in advance if anyone has more info!

your B-25 is looking fantastic - really inspiring!

Can you share the name you use for photobucket when you upload there? Might be able to assist with knowing what your photoalbum name is under.

Excellent - cant wait to see these - love the old Beau kit but it can really use some aftermarket improvements!
-
Wow - it looks like that instrument panel is going to come out great!
-
I think these were posted before but still great to see them again - that Widow is really exciting not to mention the article there on the Intruder - fingers are crossed these kits are worth the wait and do not take major fixes for accuracy....
-
Great work there - building up really slick!
I would be terrified of messing up those cuts and that nearly priceless conversion set from CE
-
looks fantastic to me - really nice!
Keep up the great work!

Hmm, that Hobbycraft idea is not a bad one though I dont know how much it differs from a B model P-51; beyond hacking off the nose of a D and grafting on, what other mods would be needed?
-
Wow - those pilots look great! Can't wait to see more..
-
On todays Cybermodeler they state the ZM kit is superior to the Tamiya offering.
Blasphemy! OMG!
Wow that guy sure hates the working features of the Tamiya lol
-
That is extremely cool - what a fantastic build and I love those markings!
I am not terribly familiar with the Phantom kits available - is there a good kit in 1/32 of the F-4B and these early VF-84 markings available for it?
A quick search at a few shops online I did not see a F-4B so I assume maybe a conversion would be required?
-
I requested that WNW do a Messerschmitt Bf 109 because we clearly don't have enough of them.
Don't worry - I read that Tamiya's next 1/32 will probably be German WW2 subject - no doubt a 109....
-
Such an amazing build!
I am trying so hard to not buy this kit but coming into this thread to see one building up so fantastic it is very difficult to resist!
-
That looks fantastic! Is there an online step by step build account of it?
Failing that, any word on what silver paints were used to create the silver dope and metal areas?
-
Petrov27,
I'm honored that you chose this thread for your first post here! Unfortunately, there has been no word on the next production run of this kit.
D
Thanks for the welcome - glad to be here!
Love the Shinden, very sad that I missed buying that one in 1/32 when it was offered.
-
That is an extremely excellent build of that kit!
Anyone heard if there are plans to produce the Shinden kit again?

Those belts look fantastic - what method was used to weather them and get them placed so natural looking?
