  1. So approximately how much will the domestic fiscal organisation (the wife) have to quatitively ease the Pharty household?

I think i saw somewhere it's about $280USD or less than the McLaren F1 GTR kit I just ordered from HLJ:

I've wanted a model of this car ever since I first saw one and well, this looks like it'll be the only option. Thankfully, my wife understands this so no worries on that end.

  2. Light weight gear.

From the F-16C T-Bird kit, you'll need the Light Weight MLG, LWG main wheels, MLG mounted Taxi & Landing lights, non bulged MLG doors, non-bulged MLG door retract bracket/actuators, MLG forward 279 bulkhead (non bulged), and remove the "pre-bulge" from the upper LOX & ECS Turbine panels, which are part of the external MCID (Big Mouth) intake halves.

Yep, All of the Block 30's use the lightweight gear. As Chris mentioned, some of the Nellis birds are Block 42's, which would have the heavyweight gear. All of the Block 42's are painted in the "Flanker" scheme, but note that not all "flanker" painted jets are Block 42's.

    Thanks guys.

From my understanding, the T-Bird parts are no longer available from Tamiya so finding an unsold kit seems to be the only option. My LHS has one but they want $225 CDN for it. I bought the CJ kit from them for $150 so find it a bit high.

  3. Greetings Mike!

I think I can help you out here. The only large mouth intake F-16 Aggressors are those used by the 18th up in Alaska (Block 30). Two Bobs has a sheet (32-051) with markings for the Flanker (blue) scheme and Lizard (green/brown) available- if you fancy one of those two I have an extra sheet I'd be happy to send to you no charge. It is titled "Blue Fox Bandits".

The Arctic scheme (black, white, gray) is a tough one to find markings for in 1/32, the only sheet I know of is the LOOOOONG OOP Afterburner sheet (Arctic Aggressors) in 1/48 with bonus markings in 1/32 for one of those jets and the Two Bobs sheet you mention which is also OOP.

    Hi Frank,

Just wanted to check but do these F-16s use the heavy weight gear or the earlier lightweight one?

If it's the heavyweight gear, Iit looks like I'll be building one of these!!!

  4.

Nice work so far. Between all the B-25 builds on here, I think people have completed enough different sections that if you were all working on the same kit, we'd have one finished :)

I saw the Ink Squirts scheme on their website as well and thought it would be different. I've pretty much decided to do my gun nose strafer as Betty's Dream (my wife likes the look of it) but the glass nose one I'm still undecided on.

  5. I just ordered a bunch of Alclad from Lucky Models. They were about $9 USD per bottle ($14 CDN at my LHS) before shipping. I just received them yesterday so they made it fine to me in Canada. They were sent via air too.

The interesting bit is they were shipped from Germany (according to the postage and customs declaration) but Lucky Models is in Hong Kong.

Than being said, Hannants on their site mentioned that they can no longer send lacquer or enamel paints via mail so if you are in the UK, it may be a bit tougher to get them. Maybe email the retailer to check?

  6. So things have been a little slow with training for and then riding a 100 km mountain bike race last weekend - which unfortunately ended in tears, not through injury but because my rear derailleur exploded and basically prevented a strong finish (well actually any finish!). So now I'm not only modelling and drinking fine Australian red wine (I have a cellar of about 1000 bottles) to drown my sorrows, I'm also trawling the net for replacement parts and trying to decide whether to change drivetrain formats. Thankfully my bike frame is ok.

The Y-wing looks great. I have a few of the Fine Molds kits in the stash (including the Millenium Falcon) and as others have mentioned, it's great to see other subjects come up.

Sorry to hear about the derailleur exploding. I had that happen to a brand new 8spd XT riding the bike home from the shop. At leastbthey warrantied it. If you're running Shimano, the new clutch type rear derailleurs are getting great reviews. I haven't tried one myself yet. What kind of bike do you ride? I just picked up my fourth Ibis, a Mojo HD and a Surly Pugsley last fall.

  7. No problemo Kev. It really is a well engineered little thing. Solid billet aluminum, and well made.

Just don't loose the little assortment of collars they provide for different diameters of prop shafts. The center section unscrews to flip over for reverse pitch props.

Ive used that little thing on every single build since that didnt have pre-assembled props. The center also can be adjusted up or down for different hights as well.

I have one as well. I got it for my Seafire build but that has contra props so we'll see how it works out. I do have a couple PCM kits in the stash too so either way, it should be worth it.

  8. We've got rain here in Toronto. All the snow we had is gone. Sonehow, Mother Nature must have her addresses screwed up. I mean we're the Great White North! Maybe I'm optimistic but I swapped the snow tires off my fat bike though.

Great progress on the bomb bay. Seeing all these B-25s being built is making it really hard to resist starting mine but I have to finish at least a couple of the kits on my bench.

  9. Hi

What is your experience with TS? So far I stick with Sprue Brothers when ordering from the U.S. but I may diversify if you tell me that they are good and reliable.

    Thanks in advance

    Jozef

I ordered my B-25 Strafer from them and was very happy with Tim's service. He even honored the original shipping quote after USPS raised their prices. So I would be happy to order from Tim again.

At the price he's offering, I may break down and do so. Although my stash is growing to ridiculous levels.

  10. Hi Vaughan,

Great model and thanks for the step by step on pattern making. Any plans to do a White Star? I have one that I started over 10 years ago but never finished. It's about 30cm in length and solid resin. It would need some work but let me know if you're interested.

There was a comic book shop near my old work that had an Agamemnon destroyer that was about 6 ft long. Don't know what happened to it or the store.

  11. It's odd how much that kit goes for outside of Hong Kong. I picked up my copy from Lucky Model and it was $109 US.

    http://www.luckymodel.com/scale.aspx?item_no=AF%20R32S01

Truthfully though, the only reason I got it was because at the time, they had a deal on shipping ($2!) to Canada.

My dad loves that I have it as he's from Taiwan. Might give it to him to build up :)

    Or build it for him.

  12. Great idea for the cockpit. LSP Kevin is working on one and I am working on the same kit but with the Freightdogs Seafire 47 conversion kit.

The work you've done seems to be an improvement even over the Mastercasters resin cockpit, especially in terms of fit.

As for Griffon references, the only one I have is the SAM Datafile book on the late mark Spitfires and Seafires.

  13. Thanks Kev, you're right about that. I forgot that you mentioned it in the review.

Here's the next fun bit: the spinner with 6 blades to mount:

    024.jpg

As you can see, Freightdogs give you a large divot to mount the prop blades to. But I was concerned that the joint would still be a bit weak so I drilled out the centre of each one along with the blades.

These are the forward most set of blades which according to the instructions, rotate clockwise:

    023.jpg

After doing my first test fit, I noticed that they all angled forward, sort of like a whisk. I think this is bcause of the shape of the recess in the spinner. Being a bowl shape, I think it made me drill them on an angle. Carefully bending the brass rod got them all in line. That's why the rods are bent. When I get the rear set done, I'll take a pic to better illustrate this.

    That's it for now.

  14. Thanks for the replies everyone. I'm really getting into this build. I think part of that is not having all the AM to throw at it. It's been a great treat that way.

Ian, thanks for posting those pics, they're really helpful. It's nice seeing the real version of what I'm building.

I forgot to take pics of the seat so will try to remember next time I'm over at my work space.
