Adrian A.
Hi guy's, After trying to cut my Waldron gauges for my 1/24 Airfix Mustang with beveled brass rods to no avail, (the smaller size would bend before it would cut the gauge sheet), I went looking for alternatives. I went to Hobby Lobby but found nothing (except a 1/32 Revell Corsair for $ 8.00 on sale! I'll be looking for decals for Pappy Boyington's A/C shortly. It was my last 1/32 scale plane I built in 1976 before I stopped modelling.) I really loved those old Revell models back then, it was the only game in town where I lived at least. By the way, the decals in this reissue ain't bad. Anyway, I went to Wally world with the wife and I found an enexpensive (cheap!) alternative for the punch & die set for the time being. (only $ 8.00). What I've found is called a 'Rotary Hole Punch' by Tandy Leather Co. and it has six different size holes. (2mm, 2.5mm, 2.8mm, 3.2mm, 4mm, & 4.8mm). It's not perfect but but it works great. I've punched a dozen holes in plastic card (.010) and it seems to match up with the gauges almost perfectly. It's easy to line up & cuts very smooth with little pressure. I'll be starting on my instrument panel tomorrow, (my first attempt at detailing an instrument panel), wish me luck! I thought if any other modeller's were in the same boat as I when it comes to tools (I've got the models & parts, it's tools & talent I'm lacking..... but I'm workin' on both!), it might be a cheap & expediant alternative to a more expensive punch & die set. Hope this helps someone out there! Adrian A.
