experience printing _entire_ 3D model (rather than in parts)?

Does anyone have experience printing an large-scale 3D model, without first splitting it into parts?

 

This would require an 3D printer that is probably too expensive for individual purchase, so I am wondering if anyone has experience with sending the .stl or similar file to a service to have it directly printed at 1:32 or 1:24 scale ?

If this would solve the possible assembly issues the design of most planes will prevent the possibility of painting the interior...

Yes. I would be happy with just the overall shape, with a "solid" opaque canopy and no interior details.
