  1. Here's my reworked prop for the Trumpeter Fw190D-9 compared to one of the kit blades. The inital work on the blade was done over ten years ago for an old '190D conversion for the Airfix kit.

Very very nice blade Steve. Any plans to market it?

  2. LSP Tony,

Thank you for your very technical description of the Farbton 02 colour. I understand what you tell me, and it makes perfect sense (there are similar parallels with USAAF and RAF colours). What I really meant was that I do not know what Farbton (RLM) 02 looks like! All that I have for reference is the Humbrol paint guide (which tells me to mix it, which I am reluctant to do). So, in essence, I am looking for a readily available paint in the (approximate) right shade/colour to paint my model. I have exactly the same issue with Fabton 66 colour. In the UK, we only have a fairly limited choice of paints (depending on what the model shops decide to stock). This only leaves mail order or trips to model contests to stock up on any useable colours. Our main brands are Humbrol, Extracolor, Tamiya, plus any acrylics that can be imported from america. Thanks for your advice.

  3. Larry, no need to be humble in your opinions! You speak a lot of truth. I think that it is all about expectations. You and I are from an older generation that (like many modellers on this LSP site) know what it is like to have no other option than build from vacform kits and/or scratchbuild everything in 1/32nd (or larger) scale. Although the cost of the Trumpeter kits are an issue, it is generally the younger and wealthier modellers that have the larger income (and determination) to by the best detail that they can for their cash. There is nothing wrong in this, however, model producers (like Trumpeter) should be applauded and encouraged to continue producing these kits (irrespective of their faults), and maybe their purchase price may settle a little when enough kits have been sold. Look on the bright side, it keeps the smaller aftermarket acessory producers in business  .

  4. AngoMango,

For small parts (or any size part really), 5 Minute Epoxy (Araldite) works well, as is will not melt or mess up the plastic areas of your model. However, once mixed, it does have a fairly limited 'working life' before it stiffens to the point of becoming unusable (it can also be removed reasonably easily if you mess up). PVA (white woodworkers glue) is also very useful for attaching/filling transparancy parts, although the bond is fairly weak. Used with thin strips of masking tape, PVA glue is also very good for masking clear parts (it is self-releasing when dried). 'Johnsons Kleer' acryalic floor polish (or 'Future' floor polish, as you may know it) is extremely versatile. Not only does it make your canopies extremely clear and provide a nice gloss coat to the model for decals, it also makes a good adhesive. I have successfully used it to attach the thinnest vacform canopy to may models, as well as thin plastic Micro-Strip (and other detail parts) to the inside of the fuselage. You will find it useful as a slow setting glue for small parts, but you may find that they have to be set up or supported before you glue them. As an added bonus, it can also be used as a decal setting solution!

  5. Jack,

As far as I'm concerened, your model is already a winner in most of our eyes. I know from personal experience just frustrating it is to have given your all in making what you (and others) believe to be an award winning model, only to find that it gets (seemingly) nowhere on the day. All you can do is the total of being down-hearted, that is re-double your efforts to improve. Thankfully, there is much encouragement from all of the members on this site to help you along :) Everyone (including the contest judges) appreciated your efforts, even if you didn't get any official feed back to that effect - which is exactly what you need to improve!. Here in the UK, I would suspect that your efforts would have earned an 'Highly Commended' or 'Merit' award at minimum (something that you may wish to discuss with Erik, I'm sure that he will help you if he can). Keep heart and keep up the good work (I am still striving to improve, even after my competition success last month).

    Good luck and well done

  6. Dear Blackdog,

I think that Larry Hawkins (Maverick) has just about summed it all up! There really is very little extra to say except congratulations (from all of us I expect) on producing such an outstanding model. There appears to have been a sudden explosion of talent on the LSP, of which you are the latest addition. I for one (and hopefully many others) would welcome an artical on your weathering techniques. I am sure that we can all learn much from your example.

    Best regards

  7. Sorry Guys!

    I only was joking ;)

But the plastic "Nipples" is not an unusual word in german...

I don´t know the correct word in english.

    Hi Chris,

Difficult to translate words sometimes! I think that 'moulding pips' or plastic pips' would probably be understood by everyone. :D How is the '262' coming on?

  8. I know why they call you coolie now, it's because you make pretty cool models! As I am fairly new to Luftwaffe aircraft, I have taken some time to assess what I like. I think (and others may agree or disagree with this one) that I like the lines of the later Me 109's and Fw 190's. This is maybe because I similarly like the lines of the later Spitfires (especially Griffon Spits) - perhaps it's just a big engine thing! Earlier fighters (of any type) maybe thoroughbred classics, but the later beasts have more sex appeal - I think! Anyway, nice model Coolie (I MUST buy a 109 very soon!).

    Cheers

  9. Tim C,

Very, very nice (I forgot to scroll down to see the finished item - doh!). Well deserved credit for your efforts. You can always tell a good model - with no other reference close to the model, it should be almost impossible to determine the scale of the finished model from its looks alone! Well done Tim.

  10. Nice to see you on line Vasko! (I have only been here since the end of September). The point made by Mr. Valdez is a good one. Only on here have I heard that the lower (underwing belly) lamp is amber in colour - thanks for the info' (I have always wondered what the actual colour was!). I have noted that the Spitfire fuselage drop tanks (in their various sizes) have a similar type of lamp - so I assume that they are also amber?
