  1. H-218 Revell 'World's First Jet Fighter' Me262 A-1a "Swallow" (a new tool in 1971) I've just finished a Blitzbau (24 hour build) over on the UAMF of the Revell 1/32 (1971 original tooling according to Scalemates) Me262 A-1a. Here are some photos of the finished model. After market decals used as the kit was bought second hand for £10.00 without decals but otherwise complete and unstarted (at Cosford show this year). Ready for the off... Revell provide a tail prop so it will obviously be a tail-sitter, thus a wheel balancing weight and some liquid gravity are required. With the limited time, an impressionistic approach is all I can afford in the office... ...but it actually looks reasonable from a distance Then it all started to go horribly wrong - I tried spraying Humbrol Acrylics (247 - RLM76)... ...a mistake I will never make again. I was 12 hours by now and at the point of binning the whole lot - I spent nearly an hour fannying about with that Humbrol rubbish. I took a break of a few hours and then came back to it, using Tamiya paints this time, mixed to approximate RLM 74, 75 & 76. This was what I ended up with. I heartily recommend a Blitzbau if you've never done one. Most people go for simpler 1/72 kits mind you. I'll have to build one of the Revell new tool Me 262s now as a comparison! Cheers Al.
  2. The ECR is the grey one in the Tiger Stripes Thomas. The other (brown) one was intended to be in Saudi markings based on photos I took of one I saw at Farnborough Airshow back in the 90s - that's how long it takes me to finish a build - decades!!
  3. That is where I fitted an integral battery holder used to power the original type Airfix prop motor so it could stand on its wheels with the motor running and no wires on show anywhere. The idea was that the tail just clipped back into place after turning the motor switch on or replacing the battery.
  4. Beautiful build Tom. I have the same kit in the East German camo version boxing which your gorgeous build is inspiring me to get out and enter it in the Shelf of Doom GB. The home made covers are very impressive too, I may have to try my hand at some of those. Cheers mate. Al.
  5. Not so much a shelf of doom as a shed of doom! Do I have any started but stalled builds in 1/32 and above - er, yeah, just a few. The Tornado ECR will be a good one to finish as it will bulk out the display table at SMW in November if needs be. I must have started it 6 or 7 years ago as I have pictures of it on another forum as a WIP way back then. I guess it would be a WISP now - Work Still In Progress (or Work Stalled In Progress). Once the ECR is finished I will get stuck into one of the others on the table (and they're just the ones I had to hand - there are at least 3 started Airfix 1/24th Harriers lurking somewhere in the loft. Cheers Al.
  6. Yes mate, manning my own Revell Modelling SIG table and helping out with Classic British Kits and Airfix Modelling SIG tables as well.
  7. Hi guys, Beany here - I've just joined after being a long time lurker (I thought I was already a member!). I've been making LSPs since the 70's when the income from my paper round as a teenager meant I could afford the lovely old Revell 1/32nd planes, and I'm still building them to this day, along with more exotic fare from the likes of Trumpeter and Special Hobby etc.
