  1. Hello everyone, I'm back with some more weathering progress. I got the top and both sides of the fuselage and the tops of both horizontals finished in the weathering process. I now only have to weather the top of the left wing and the cowling and the weathering will be done. I realized the other day that I was originally going to fold the wingtips and never cut the indicators off that retract when they're unfolded and locked in place. One thing I'm not sure of that I need to know or go searching for myself is if you could still see the red of these indicators after the wings were locked in place, or if I need to try and repaint my wingtips to match and re-weather them. That's all I have for now. Cheers, Brady
  2. She looks really good so far. I'm glad I snatched two of these up when they were in the presale mode. I've got to decide still if one of mine will be my next build after I finish my Tamiya A6M2 or if I'm going to do one of my many other projects on the "to do" list. Keep up the good work! Cheers, Brady
  3. Hello everyone, I'm back with a little bit of progress, some of it being a repeat of what was once already done. I've gotten the replacement canopy parts painted that Ade sent me and I also got the rear side of the prop blades painted black like they need to be. Like I said it's not much progress, but some. Cheers, Brady
  4. Yesterday I got those parts for the canopy that I broke the originals of painted again for a second try at having a complete canopy. I'm sorry I forgot to snap a picture of the parts while they were drying, but it wasn't much to see really. Being back in school for the summer semester I haven't had much time to work on the fuselage and the top of the other wing with a wash, but we'll get there. Cheers, Brady
  5. Hello everyone, I received the replacement parts for the canopy that I broke the originals of today in the mail. I can't say this is much of an update other than I've got the parts and most of the masks are on them now. Next is to paint the interior black color followed by the Amber Grey like they were before. That's all for now. Cheers, Brady
  6. Thank you guys! On another note what color wash would you guys suggest that I use for the cowling since it's black? Thanks again, Brady
  7. Hey, I'm back with an update, I worked pretty ambitiously last night and this morning on my Zero. As you saw in my previous post I completed the wash on the bottom side. This morning I completed the wash on the top of the right wing and started on the side of the fuselage, getting quite a bit done in one sitting. Here's what the top of the wing looks like now: Hopefully more to come soon. Cheers, Brady
  8. Hello everybody, I think I'm finally done with the wash on the belly of my Zero. I did most of the wash on the belly with Dark Brown, a little Dark Grey was also used. This is what the bottom of the plane looks like now that it's completed: Next I guess will be doing the wash on the top of the wings and fuselage. That's all I've got for now. Cheers, Brady
  9. Hello everyone, I'm back with some progress, not a lot but some. I never thought this wash would take so much time....maybe I'm too picky too either way it's slowed me down a lot, but it's looking pretty good I think. One place the wash process isn't going to be in my favor I'm afraid is where I filled and sanded the seam line on the belly of the tail cone and lost some detail before painting and my skills at doing rivets still aren't very good. Ade is coming to my rescue on my broken canopy problem and is sending me his spare as we speak. One thing I didn't like too much about this paint I used was how much stayed with the Tamiya masks and not with the canopy parts when I took them off the broken canopy. I'm wondering if I need to go around each mask with a knife blade before removing them after I paint the good ones? That's all I've got for now. Cheers, Brady
  10. Thanks Harv. I'll save the folding mechanisms for another Tamiya Zero I want to build later on and make this build with straight wings. Cheers, Brady
  11. Yea I was wondering the same thing about the wingtips myself for the same reasons as you guys were. I was kind of wondering if it was even necessary to fold them on land. The good thing is the wingtips still haven't been glued in place yet they've only "posed" for pictures, so they can still be positioned either way. Brady
  12. If you don't need it Ade, I'll put it to good use. Brady
  13. Hi guys, Yea it was a big bummer and made me say a few choice words. I got in touch with Tamiya and am waiting on them now. It really sucks that I have to do all that masking a second time though. Thanks for all your kind words though guys. In the mean time I'll be working on the panel line washes. Cheers, Brady
  14. Hi Dutik, That is an appealing looking kit for a diorama. I'll have to sleep on that one, since I already have the other two kits I was thinking of using if I actually am crazy enough to go through with this. Does anyone know if I'm going to make a model entrapped in solid resin, do I want two part epoxy clear resin? Kev, If you or someone finds the build you are thinking of I'd be interested in it. Cheers, Brady
  15. Hello everyone, First off, thank you Mark. I realized today that I was working on panel line details when I hadn't even painted the insignia on the lower portion of the wings. So I painted those on the wings today. While I was painting the insignia on two of the sections of the canopy fell off while it was inverted, and I forgot they hit the floor. Then I stepped on both of them and broke them both, now I'm having to get replacements from Tamiya and I'll have to paint them over....bummer. Cheers, Brady
  16. Wow that is an incredible build! I'd love to do a Zero that looks similar to the condition of the boat with either the old Revell 1/32 A6M5 or the old Swallow A6M2. If I do this I want to be able to look at it from all sides. Do you guys know if Rhodes made the whole base out of tinted clear epoxy resin as one big block or was his water made differently? Thanks, Brady
  17. Hi everyone, I took the masks off of my Zero today to take a look at the final results of my painting. I've got to say I think she don't look too bad. Then I started giving the bottom of the wings some detail with a wash of dark brown and dark gray. So far I don't think it looks too bad for a newbie like me: That's all I have for now. Cheers, Brady
  18. Wow, I've got to say there are some cool looking builds in those links you guys posted. I'd say I'd kinda like to go for the look if the build of submerged tank only with a Zero. I'm not totally decided on if I want to go fully or partially submerged, I've seen real wrecks in both states. I'm not too worried if the build is heavy in the end I'd just like to know how to do it correctly. And the process. Would you guys say if I'm going to go with a build like the beautiful tank will I want to use Epoxy two part clear resin or a Polyester two part resin? Thanks, Brady
  19. Hi guys, Has anyone ever modeled a seabed diorama? I'm tinkering with an idea for later on down the road of doing a wrecked Zero underwater. What all would I need for materials for the water and seabed that I could color and give a blue/green tint to and still be deep enough to submerge a model? I may be thinking of getting myself into a project that I'll regret, but right now it kinda sparks my interest. Thanks in advance, Brady
  20. Hi Mark, Really? Future is acrylic? I would have never guessed floor polish was acrylic, I thought it was supposed to repel water, thus I was thinking it wouldn't be acrylic. Or is that only after it solidifies? But I won't argue, I'll take your word for it that it's acrylic. There's a lot more than I thought there was to learn about this stuff when you're a newbie like me at it. One more question though, can I use it as a sealer after everything is completed followed probably by a matte clear coat? Thanks, Brady
