  1. Does anyone know of a conversion kit to move the 1/32 Revell Beaufighter into a Mk X? Equally - if anyone has a better idea how to do this please advise!
  2. Hi there. Definitely 'SS' - this is the personal Spitfire IX of Wg Cdr R.W.F. Sampson, or 'Sammy' Sampson. This Spit IX was the first of two that he flew marked SS, the second being a low back Spit XVIe in the Spring of 1945. Interestingly, in his book he is clear that the high back, standard, Spitfire was faster than the low back XVIe. Thanks for the thoughts - I too was plumping for white as the colour. Now I just need to work out the soze of the red inner of the roundel and I shouldnhave the size. Good thinking!! Simon
  3. I am building the Tamiya Spitfire IX as an 'e' - photo of the aircraft flown by Wg Cdr RWF Sampson in Spring 1945. What size do people think the 'ss' markings on th fuselage are, and do we expect these would have been done in 'Sky' or 'White'. Thanks Simon
  4. Hi Wolf .... hope all is OK at your end .... been some time since you posted any progress. Sometimes difficult to keep the motivation at the level of detail and work you are doing on your Spit'?? Frankly don't know how you have the patience!! All the best. Simon
  5. A bit more progress. Wolf - you are right, the engineering on this model makes it a joy to put together! Cockpit into the fuselage half: and with the fuselage closed the wings can be added - no filler needed at all, the fit is so precise! Comment and advice always welcome!! Simon
  6. Hey Wolf! Absolutely stunning work once again. Now having started my own 1/32 Tamiya Spit' IX (http://forum.largescaleplanes.com/index.php?showtopic=40793) it has simply served to demonstrate how exceptional the scratch building in your build really is!!! Love it!
  7. Thanks for all your positive thoughts and encouragement!! Well I have begun and post up here the progress so far ..... first model on LSP so be gentle with me folks! This Tamiya kit is a beauty though. Everything fits together so logically and the detail from the box is wonderful! It also brings into even sharper focus for me the quite amazing work and craftsmanship being displayed in the build of this same model by Wolf Budee also on LSP. Anyway - for what it is worth! The two sides of the cockpit so far: and the instrument panel and support: Comments and advice on how to improve what I do are very welcome! Thanks and regards to all on LSP. Simon
  8. Well here we go! First time of posting my own stuff on LSP but you've got to start sometime!! I have been absolutely inspired by Wolf's Spitfire IXc build on this forum over the last few weeks and have decided to follow his superlative lead and build my own Tamiya 1/32 Spitfire. However, I will be building it as a Spitfire IXe and not the IXc the standard kit builds into. My plan is to build the model as Spitfire IXe RK853 'SS' as flown by Wg Cdr R.W.F. Sampson DFC & bar in March 1945. It was in this aircraft whilst flying from B.85 Schjindel on 13th March 1945 that Wg Cdr Sampson claimed a Bf109 destroyed. RK853 survived the war and was later transferred to the French Air Force. To enable me to do this I have purchased the additional spture 'LL' from Tamiya's 1/32 Spitfire XVIe model which looked the easiest way to convert the IXc wing to the correct IXe. So here we go; I have to turn this: into this: I have no illusions as to emulating Wolf's magnificent modelling skills or level of detail - but I will have a lot of fun doing my own thing!! Simon
  9. Wolf. Sincere condolences to you and to your friends family and loved ones. Please ignore my question regarding the colour/paint used until some future date. It is people that matter in this world, friends, family and so on. Simon
  10. Again Wolf - just a treat to see it progress. What colour/paints did you use to get the pale green colour on the fire wall etc ... looks perfect!
  11. Wolf - it looks stunning as is. An absolute treat to see what this model can look like as it is next in line for my workbench!! Mind you - mine will look nothing like yours nor will have that detail - well beyond my skill level in terms of build and paint. Simon
  12. Just wonderful to watch Wolf. Been watching and enjoying this whole thread as the tamiya Spitfire is the next on the bench once the Revell 1/72 Lancaster is out the way! Keep it coming!! S
