I decided to take this kit off the shelf and give it a whirl. It's one of the Gamilas space carriers seen in the recent SBY 2199 series. Bandai has a series of kits of various capital ships and fighters from the series in box scale. They're all about 3" in length when completed so there is no constant scale to them but they are a fun and quick build. Here's the parts overview: I guess space is the only place you can pull of having a purple carrier. I started by painting the flight decks light grey. I then masked this off for the deck markings with 0.4 and 0.7mm masking tape.

While (not so) patiently waiting for my eye to get better, I decided to find something in the stash I could work on that wouldn't cause too much eye strain. I found this kit which I've had since it came out in 2002:
