  1. I bought a old revell "Wildcat" off ebay a while back and just got around to opening it up over the weekend to find item # 1 & 2, which are the upper and lower landing gear linkage are broken up way beyond repair... I was wondering if someone had a kit they where building gear up or just extra parts they would like to sell ? Thanks in advance...

  2. Hi everyone,

I just got what I hope is the first of many Trump. Bearcat models and I like to build all my models based on warbirds or air racers - past or present... I would like to build the bearcat like the one owned by the Kalamazoo Air Zoo before it's belly landing in 1995 when it had a spinner on it... The question is what spinner do you suggest and where do I find it... See photo below and many thanks in advance... Mike

  3. I have actually had a lot of problem with paint sticking to resin parts. Even after washing them in detergent and even brake cleaner (very harsh acetone based solvent).

The product I found based on recommendations from others is called Westly's Blech White. It is sold at Walmart and is used for cleaning whitewall tires. I just keep it in a plastic container, and soak resin parts in it overnight, then rinse them in warm water before trying to primer or paint them. That has solved the problems for me.

    Thanks Bryan,

I actually use the Wesley's White Wash to stripe the paint off of plastic... It works great and I have forgotten parts soaking before and after 5 - 6 weeks of soaking it has never harmed the plastic...

Great stuff for adding new life to a old model...

  4. Hi everyone,

In all my years of building models I'm doing my first conversion on a P-38 with Jerry Rutman's E/F conversion... My question is do I need to lightly sand parts or treat with special solvent to get paint to stick and be able to mask on it without tape peeling up base coat... I'm painting with Testors Model Master Enamels... Thanks in advance...

  5. Greeting fellow model builders,

I was just curious if anyone with a inside scoop might know if any of the companies making the 1/32 Sea Fury - plan on doing the land based "Fury" which does not have the tailhook ? I just received one of the hobbycraft models over the weekend and I was hoping it would be as simple as cutting, filling and sanding to remove the tailhook, but it appears the bottom of the rudder is a totally different shape... Since the rudder is separate from the fuselage maybe it could be used to make

a mold and just reform the bottom... I'm new at making major mods like this, so any suggestions would be great... Thanks in advance...

  6. Is anyone familiar with the skyraider revell made in the early 70's... I see one advertised on ebay as 1/32 scale and it gives the wingspan (14 3/4") and length (11 1/4") of the model when it's finished, but unless I'm doing the 32nd conversion on the ruler wrong it seems to small... According to the "Warbird Alley" website the actual wingspan is 50' 9" and the length is 38' 10" ...Am I doing the math wrong??? Thanks in advance, Mike

  7. HEY JAY L,

SORRY IF THE STATEMENT CAME ACROSS TO STRONG... I GUESS IT JUST HIT ME FUNNY WITH THE COMMENT YOU MADE OF "ALL" AVENGERS HAVING TAILHOOKS STORED INTERNALLY AND HAVING BEEN GOING TO AIRSHOWS FOR 30 YEARS , I'VE SEEN MORE OF THE EXTERNAL HOOKS THAN INTERNAL... THE IMPORTANT THING IS WE FINALLY HAVE A 1/32 TBM / TBF !!! , BUT SINCE THERE ARE MULTIPLY CONVERSIONS FOR THE ME109, FW190, SPITFIRES, ETC. - THEN HOPEFULLY SOMEDAY WE'LL BE ABLE TO BUILD THE DIFFERENT VERSIONS OF THE AVENGER... MIKE

  8. Thank You for all the help guys... And for those unsure about external tailhooks just start looking thru ANY of the warbird magazines and there are some TBM's with the hook mounted external under the tail... A good example is the one I'm going to build belonging to Bob Pond / Palms Springs Air Museum which is painted in British markings... Thanks again "Smithery" for checking your model for me, Mike

  9. Thanks Dan, Do you know if the Trump "TBM" Avenger has the external tailhook... I like to build all my models after warbirds or air racers / past or present and I want to build the Bob Pond (Palms Springs Air Museum) Avenger done in British Fleet Air Arm colors and it has a external tailhook and I'd like to find out before I buy my kit... Thanks again, Mike

  10. Had a question about the tailhook on the Avenger model... It's my understanding that on the real airplanes a major external difference between the Grumman TBF and the General Motors TBM was the tailhook was internally stowed on the TBF & hung external on the TBM... Just wondering from those of you that have bought this kit is this the same as the real birds... Thank You in advance, Mike
