  1. Hey all, I just snagged an old Revell RF-4B (with the red "film" markings). I realize this is the old tool Phantom, but I am curious if this is a true RF-4B with thin wings or if they just reboxed their other RF-4 kit with USMC markings. Tried to research on the net while I wait for it to arrive but couldn't find anything If anyone happens to know the answer to this I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks
  2. It's been staring at me from the stash for far too long....I can't resist.....must build.....big Phantom..... OK, so here is the beginning of my 1:32nd Revell F-4E. Yeah, I know there are some issues with the kit....but I have never been one to care about minor inaccuracies, so why start now? I did make my first attempt at scratch building in the cockpit though....but that was more for gits and shiggles. Check it out.... Here is what it looks like after a coat of paint and a little dry brush of Tamiya Smoke.... The inside of the front fuselage has these big indents where the intake would be. I filled them up with some spare sheet plastic (cottage cheese lids to the rescue!) and puttied them up. Now there not a huge gap in the wall next to the back seat Cockpit completed and installed.... I added some ribbing on the sidewall using strips from a cottage cheese lid (If you do this....make SURE you prime the plastic from the lid with Mr. Surfacer before attempting to paint....the plastic does not hold paint well) Here is what it will look like with a seat installed..... All in all....I'm pretty happy with the results of my first real scratch build project. Any feedback would be much appreciated.
  3. May I present Eglin's 58th FS "Gorillas" triple kill F-15C. The jet carries three kill stars. On Jan 29, 1991, Capt. David Glen shot down an Iraqi MiG-23 southeast of Kirkuk with an AIM-7 Sparrow. Several days later, on Feb 7, the jet also got two SU-22s. The kit is Revell's 1:32nd F-15C. This is the older kit that comes with the ASAT missle and seriously tinted canopy. The kit was a bargain find for 15 bucks at a hobby expo. I lucked out and managed to find a clear canopy from a guy on one of the other forums. The model was primed with Tamiya grey Surface Primer, then a base coat of MM Aggressor Grey went on. After the case coat cured, the MOD Eagle camo scheme was completed using MM Dark Grey (F-15). I used Two Bobs 32-017 Eglin's Gorillas. Once I sealed in the decals with a second coat of Future, I applied a sludge made from ground up pastel chalk, water and a couple drops of liquid soap. Once the sludge dried, I rinsed it and left a nice dark panel line. As this was a DS era jet, I left it a little dirtier than I would for a USAF jet.
  4. Thanks guys! I gotta say, seeing the responses like this have really bouyed my confidence....this build has definitely been one of my most frustrating builds yet. It was very close to the scrap bin on several occasions.
  5. For the last year, I have been slowly working on my Revell 1:32nd F-15C Eagle. While not as detailed as the Tamiya, it is still a fun build and makes a decent looking F-15 when finished....and heck, I paid 15 bucks for it at a show. Cockpit. I used a trick from Dave Roof using Amscan confetti for the MFD screens. It makes a really cool effect and gives a pretty good representation of what the screen looks like while powered down. Here's another shot of those screens, to show how cool they look when the light hits em the right way. Got the forward fuselage all buttoned up and ready for the ole' fill and sand treatment. Nothing too bad on this section..... Rear fuselage complete. There are some pretty big putty eaters here, especially in the wing roots. Here are the nozzles. Revell's featherless nozzles are kind of a joke. Shame they don't upscale the nozzles from their quarter scale mudhen. These were weathered useing Tamiya weathering master set C. Love that stuff! I have everything sealed up and ready to prime and paint. THis is how I left it this afternoon. I just have a few stencils left "No Walk", etc. Then a flat coat and some weathering and she's as good as done.
  6. Thanks Texas, I'll give that a go. I know Harold is pretty active at ARC, maybe I'll hit him up there.
  7. Hey guys, I have a couple Revell F-4Es in my stash that I am starting to look at as possibly my next project. Does anyone have any experience with the AMS nose correction set for this kit? Interested in how much work is involved, how well it fits, etc....just a generalized review if possible. Thanks!
  8. This guy took sometime but I finally got it done! This kit is my first attempt at rescribing. I scribed using dymo tape and my handy pin vise. After I had finished making the besic lines, I took a Squadron "Scribing Tool" and went over the lines again with the tool at an angle. This cut out any excess material left from the pin vise and gave the line a little weight. The I used a pounce wheel for the rivets. For some reason, I decided that it didn't look very good so I boxed it. 2 and a half years later, I decided to bring it out and take a look at it again and figured I should finish it and give it a chance to see how the rescribing turned out. I was a bit concerned about the lines becoming too shallow to take a wash so I gave it a coat and a half of Future (one full coat, decals, then just applied Future over the decals). Weathering was done using dark grey pastel chalk crushed into a powder and mixed with water. This sludge was then applied to the model and allowed to dry. Then, I rinsed the entire model off in the sink (wife was not thrilled with that one!) and lo and behold! It looked pretty darned good! I have another one of these in the stash and am itching to get to work on it. The AIM-9's came from a Revell 1:32nd F-14A....the ones in the kit were absolute rubbish. Markings are from Two Bobs Golden State Griffins sheet. Everything else came right outta the box
  9. I just started a Kinetic 1:32nd F-86F-30. This is my first attempt using Tamiya Extra Thin Cement...interesting stuff. Still getting used to it. I have heard that this kit goes together with little to no putty....a few guys have boasted just using Mr. Surfacer to fill what little seams there are.....I am guessing they maybe got better molds, cause that is definitely not the case here. The seam where the wing meets the bottom of the fuselage is going to be a bit hairy, and the wing roots don't look all that better. We'll see. I do like what they've done with the cockpit. They give you the standard injection molded instrument panel, they also give you a clear panel with holes and a decal that gets sandwiched for the dials. Not quite as good as using PE....but it gets the job done.... More to come as I tackle those wing roots!
  10. wow.....absoutely stunning. The finished product is going to be mind boggling. I though the old Testor's quarter scale kit was big.....this one takes the cake man. Keep it up!
  11. Hey all, I just found one of Hasegawa's old 32nd scale TA-4J kits. Are there any options out there for decals? I've searched around my normal sites around the web but can't find much. Any suggestions would be much obliged. Thanks
