  1. Nick,

I have both Jerry's books and they are expensive but I think of them as an invaluable asset and an investment if you want to model the 190 (even us mediocre modellers have aspiration!). Perhaps you have a birthday coming up, or an early Xmas gift. Xmas in July! There's an excuse. A relative's birthday, a person a total strangers graduation, day in the week ending in"Y"? Find an excuse!!

    Regards

  2. thanks Kent

    pics look very smart

out of interest, is the colour "under" the camo / not sprayed at the edge of the gun bay RLM02?

hadn't really considered that overlap area before i saw your pic

    thanks again,

    Nick

    Hello Nick,

Yes it is 02. I cannot recall exactly the reference right now but I had it for the build. But I will say I must have read it durin ghe build because I would never have thought of freelancing that idea. I will dig it out...it may have been the Aires instructions but don't quote me on that. Jerry Crandell's first Dora book has the a/c is profiled there as well.

PS I enjoyed your Eduard 109 build as well, well done! <_<

  3. Nick,

In my last Revell FW190 I used the MDC pit , MDC wheels and Aires gun bay set, which I found to be very good. It was in fact the first resin pit I had ever used and I was very pleased with the outcome. Here are a couple of in progress shots:

The belts are Eduard. I have a set of Radub's for the next one. I have an EE pit (as well as cowlings) on order at the moment for another project as I wanted to guage the difference.

    Here is the gun bay:

I have chosen the MDC wheels again as you get entire set (main and tail) as opposed to the EE set which only has the main wheels. I hope these shots have helped as I am nowhere near as good as others but it may give you a rough idea!

    Regards,

  4. My R4M rockets are no longer on my store list because they were a nightmare to make. I sold only 10 of them and whoever has them (I have the list, most of them members of this forum, one actually has two) should keep them as the "hen's teeth" that they truly are. :speak_cool: I am not trying to "build them up" too much, but honestly, those 10 sets that come with the launch rails, rockets and the photo-etched parts are the only sets there ever were and will ever be.

The problem is the "rockets". There are 24 rockets and each rocket is made in 2 parts, so we are talking 48 parts for the rockets alone. The parts are very small and even the smallest air bubble would cause havoc. I just could not get them cast and the failure rate (i.e. spoilt parts due to air bubbles) caused untold irritation. Packing had to be done under a magnifying glass, counting and inspecting 48 parts per package. Multiply that with any number of packages and you can get the picture. Life's too short to... (insert tedious job description here).

I always wanted to go back to it and try to devise some way to sort out the problem.

The "launch rails" should be no problem, they are made and can be released, but without the rockets. If there is interest, just let me know and I can get them going in no time at all.

    Radu

PS - I made the masters for the Eagle Editions rockets too.

    Radu,

I hope I wasn't out of line in my response. I think I got it close to the mark and I'm glad you clarified the position. I will email about a set of rails.

    Regards,

  5. Radu makes a set on his site.... RB Productions. They look very nice!!! Have to pick up a set myself!

I don't think they went ahead. I spoke to Radu a while back (over 6 months) and he said he wasn't happy with some aspect of the moulding and did not believe they were up to standard to sell. He may have had more success recently though. I am thinking of getting a set from Eagle myself for my ongoing 262 (which will have the same markings) and has become my opus!!

  6. The artwork in that ad shows the Wairarapa Wildcat markings that are included in kit number 8199.

Actually, I should take a photo of this kit for the database. I didn't realise there wasn't one there already.

I have the kit in 1/48 if that helps. I will take a phot for you if you like? I am not much of a photographer tho :speak_cool:

  7. That's a good start!

I built the same kit up and added a few aftermarket goodies (MDC cockpit and wheels, Eduard prepainted belts) to mine. Here are a couple of shots:

Your wheels look pretty good thus far, are they the kit ones? What markings and scheme are you going to finish it in? May I suggest you have a look at Radu Briznan's 1/32 Luftwaffe seat belts? They add a nice finish to the seat.

  8. Don't hate the company...hate the VAT, Comrade.

The screwed up canopies must've been pretty horrible if it's hard to tell whether you have the good or bad one. I'm impressed Eduard corrected it, though. They're really good guys the couple times I've met them.

Is the 20% off everything? I may have to order up the trop....

    C

As far as I understand and not counting strange tax laws :BANGHEAD2: :evil_laugh: if you order the canopy replacement you can then order any item or items and get the 20% discount of the total cost. They will also ship your package free for this order.

  9. Just requested a replacement from Eduard via email, hope it works out alright.

I just ordered my two canopies that I needed. I also took advantage of the 20% discount and free shipping to snap up a Trop E7 and some other stuff. That offer was just too good to resist and the discounted price brings it under the price I would pay at Lucky Model or elsewhere at the moment.

  10. This is taken from the April 2010 newsletter at Eduard:

We have the re-tooled canopy. You know, the one for the Emil, dash four. It took a while, but no one was going to do it for us. It will be available for shipping around mid month. Conditions of replacement will be posted here, and retailers will be able to get them from us with their April orders.

    FYI

  11. The harness was invented by Oliver Sutton, of the RFC (not sure of his rank,) during WWI, so it was named after him; it wasn't made by a Sutton company. Immediately post-war, it was forgotten, dropped, call it what you will, and wasn't resurrected until the 1930s. There were, probably, several companies making harnesses during the war, and they would have produced them to drawings supplied, almost certainly by the likes of Supermarine themselves (certainly there are drawings of all the Spitfire harnesses, apart from the M, in the RAF Museum's MAC archive.)

    Edgar

Thanks Edgar. I appreciate your time and patience.

    Regards,

  12. Okay, I think I am getting the idea now. I think where the confusion lay and it is all my own lack of knowledge, is that I believed there were two different manufacturers of harness. The "Sutton Harness" (being the type with the large triangle and pin) and the "Q type" harness being the type with the central locking system. I was unaware there were the variants of the 'Q' model such QK, QS referring to the locking system etc. It is now apparent that they were all subtypes of harness manufactured by Sutton. Is that more correct? Sorry if I am a bit obtuse here. I think it also stems from manufactureres that give you a choice of 'Sutton' or 'Q - type' harnesses for their resin seats!!

    Thanks again

  13. Mate it is a pleasure. The reflector looks so great and it was only after looking at it for minutes and wondering how you achieved that glassy/glossy/tinted look that I actually saw it. Is it real glass or what? I hope to do 1/100th of the job on my kit as you you have done. It is an inspiration..thank you.

  14. Thanks Edgar and Radu,

So summing up the "Q type" harness, despite being described as a mid to late war modification, really didn't see general usage (in the Spitfire) until after the war, however there were a few a/c that may have had the modification. Obviously it will depend on the specific references available but it would be a safe bet to generally stick with a Sutton harness for a WWII Spitfire?
