I started by making the PE seat from trumpeter. This wasn't completely simple, as their instructions are backwards with regards to the two reinforcing pieces being shown attached to the back of the seat. But, this was solved, and the seat was made. Here's the original on the left, and the new seat on the right mocked up with the bulkhead from the kit:
The fitment is actually surprisingly good! I added a piece of evergreen and did so to make it look like an additional piece of armour (that some pilots took upon themselves to add to behind the seat from lessons learned the hard way. After that armoured "spacer" was added, you'd think that this PE seat was meant for the Airix kit. I did find one thing though, in that the original seat had some type of 'bands' (two up and one across). Don't know what they're for exactly, but they're there. I used some thin vinyl tape cut to size to duplicate this. Even though the pilot will be in the seat, he'll be leaning forward a little, so this will be seen:
After that, it was mocking up the cockpit assembly to get the pilot 'bent' into shape to line his hands up with the control column, throttle, and get the right heigh (including the parachute underneath him):
This is the figure with the molded parachute straps removed, and the mae west scribed roughly in. In addition, the loose oxygen mask has been removed, and will be replaced with (as mentione) tamiya putty to make the mask situated over his face. As for the mae west clips and straps, those are also going to be added too. As can be seen, I ended up using the Airfix figure, rather than stealing one from the Mosquito kit. This figure isn't at all that bad and is definitley going to be easy to work with. The position he's in here is the way he'll be in the seat. The only thing to change will be to heat up and "wrap" his hand around the control column, as well as insert a black rod into the left hand, heat it up and wrap his fingers around it as though he was holding the throttle:
Last but not least is the cockpit thus far. Still unpainted, but you can see what's original kit, what's added from my brass collection, and the rudder pedal straps, rudder pedal adjustment, and compass mount from the Trumpeter PE set.
All in all it's coming along well, soon this assembly will be painted the appropriate green, and work will carry on. Thanks for looking!

Some time was spent today on mocking up the cockpit to get the right shape of the pilot with one hand on the throttle instead of on his knee... and hand on the control stick. There was some work done to the figure too, to shave down the old parachute straps to allow for new ones to be made (along with the parachute), as well as shaving off the mask hanging disconneted down his chest, and starting to make a new one from tamiya putty.
Once that was (finally) done, I started to construct the cockpit, replacing some plastic frame with brass pipe, and incorporating some of the Trumpeter AM PE parts into this cockpit. It'll be a fun combination of stock pieces, trumpeter pieces and scratch built pieces.
Pictures to be posted up tonight. I'm hoping to get some more done so I can FINALLY try out the new airbrushes and comressors.

AWESOME!!! Your description really does a good job of explaining it for sure! And the pictures, as I'm sure with my own, really only show half the story.
I myself am planning on doing mine with the landing lights down, but otherwise, I would definitely be asking for some. Really though, GREAT work!

Im studying landing gear images right now to further bring them up to snuff.
I found I can get away with it at the office by making my reference images my background on my dual monitors

Love the work you've done in the office. That is impressive for sure, and the Masters barrels, I've heard a lot of good things about them. Can't wait to see them first hand (got some on order).

Looking over the Trumpeter PE set, it puts this kit at a huge advantage over the Airfix kit with AM additions to it. This set IS IMPRESSIVE!!! However, I think it'll be quite interesting to see both how it can be used on the Trumpy Kit that Kevin is building here, and the ole Airfix one I'm going to be playing with.
Now Kevin, I'm not derailing your thread here, but Phil is right... share your notes!

I use a variety of material:
-various thicknesses of solder
-thinner thicknesses of brass rods
-miscelaneous pieces of electricalwire (both insulated, and insulation stripped)
by far, solder is the easiest to work with, but do yourself a favor and search for hazards of using solder.

Just a quick note though, IIRC, the elevators would normally be in neutral (with the remainder of the control surfaces) while on the ground. That just caught my eye when you mentioned you were going to put them in a different angle.
I'm wondering if anyone can either varify this quickly, or tell me I'm completely out to lunch.
That being said, looking REALLY good!

Could you elaborate?
I've wanted to use montex masks, I've used them for canopies, but I noticed after all that was done a very distinctive paint line... even when taking all the tips I could about minimizing them. I'm weary about them considering that with fine trimming of the carrier film, a decal is still A LOT thinner than the mask.
I'm not doubting, I'd just love to get more clarification.

I LOVE when I see a bead sticking out... however, I don't use the cement. I'd be leaning towards what you said, about it curing and shrinking, which is why I've given up on using any of the fillers like testors or squadron, and even the Tamiya stuff. I use a variety of super glues.
I do it like this:
1. Sand the seams lightly with 400 grit sandpaper, just so that it isn't smooth,
2. Run THICK superglue down the edge of one of the fuselage halves (for example)*
3. Putting the two pieces together, allow the bead to form.
4. Using plactic spring clamps, hold the pieces together.
*by thick, I mean the thick, runs like molasis up hill in winter glue, not a thick coat of it*
If it's a small piece, I wait maybe an hour or two. That's it. Then it's a matter of filing sticks or sand paper to smooth it out.
The super glue wont cause your plastic to go soft, and the thick stuff works great to get that initial bead... and it's pretty darn strong.
Just what I do. Hope this helps a little.

In that video, yes, he's certainly using flaps, however time and time again I've seen them take off without. Including in the video at the very beginning of this thread.
It's hard to distinguish how it was with how it now is I find. Going through countless pictures of Hurricanes on t/o's, *airliners.net provided a lot of good information* some do, but a large majority don't drop flaps for take off.
I was surprised at first too!

I'm really looking forward to this one... perhaps our Hurricane builds will be paralleling quite nicely.
BTW, there's going to be quite a bit that I wont be using from the Trumpeter PE set, such as the flaps. If they're of use to you, let me know.
Either way though, I'm really looking forward to seeing this build. It'll definitely be a unique subject.

Definitely true. I was thinking about that too. Some good blending with paints mixed in with sand paper to soften the details to show it could work out quite well.
I'm just glad I decided to do a take off instead of landing... suffice to say I wasn't looking forward to the flaps.

Well, I couldn't wait, so I tried out the airbrush. Tonight I just used the B-200, and I was head over heels! I had no idea that I'd be this happy with them. Anywho, here's a few shots:
