Holy crap!  I was traveling when the launch happened, and didn't really get the whole story. I didn't know until today that what I was seeing wasn't a Photoshop job, but that Musk *actually* launched a Tesla into space!!

i remember reading somewhere that it missed the Mars orbit and went out for the asteroid belt, sooooooo.......collision prone for sure :hmmm:


New estimates show it likely will end up in a Mars orbit, but even if it had gone on to the 'roids a collision wasn't as probable as you'd think.

A bunch of people are in a snit because he didn't put any scientific equipment along for the ride. Sure, he could have, but ultimately it was his launch and better to lose a car if it blew up than a bunch of people's hard work. They keep bringing up the example of an early launch that carried four satellites onboard...

...which blew up mid-flight. So their point was what?
