Looks like this weekend will be pretty much indoor due to the rain from Tropical Storm Alberto, but TCM is having a great war movie marathon all weekend. A bunch of classics:

Guns of Navarone
Kelly’s Heroes
Dirty Dozen
Flying Leathernecks
Where Eagles Dare

And more.....

Problem is I have seen all of these movies, back when they first came out.

Some as far back as during WW2.

Back during the big war 2 a child's admission cost 13 cents and that included two feature films, a news reel and a cartoon or two.

We got our moneys worth back then.

As I grew older the price rose to 18 cents. :o

Awe man, would have loved to. We only have one Pay channel here in SA, and they removed TCM a while ago.

I recently tried to watch the remake of Dunkirk, albeit on a flight.......very disappointed such that I actually didn’t finish it.........
perhaps because I seen the original so many times .........

That's a pretty tired list of titles at this point in time!

Kelly's Heroes is one of my favorites of all time, but I've seen it about 10 million times now.

I would like to see some very high quality new movies come along.

Patton just aired on AMC and I never tire of watching it. Among the best WW2 movies in my opinion, especially of the earlier WW2 film attempts, pre CGI...

Got me thinking, could a remake of this film (hard to beat George Scott though) ever be done? If so, who could be cast in the lead role?

One good movie to try and see is Hacksaw Ridge, believe Clint Eastwood directed it, true story but not over dramatised......

He also did Letters from Iwo Jima and there is another Japanese language film which I can’t remeber the name.......

No TCM here, though some of the other stations will run War Movies this weekend I'd imagine. I'll be attending a big barbecue tomorrow, which quite frankly I could really care less about right now.

Kevin

I was going to procrastinate tonight, but decided to wait.

I do not have the attention span for binge-like viewing so-to-speak. All on your list I have seen many times including the first runs. Other areas of fun during the Jurasek era were the sharp stick T-Rex challenge and the Stegosaurus rodeo. We did airbrush caves and make 1/32 models but the models were always wrecked by the rain or the 3-inch long flies ate them.

Bad weather days find me at the bench while flipping of the weather periodically through the window.
