wingman777
I got the "Swallow" (same as Tomy and Doyusha) George second hand from a model buddy about 12 years ago. He had done some minor painting and gluing. This seems like the right time to finish it. I'm going to build mine "down and dirty" with minimal detailing and no aftermarket goodies. Since I went all out on the previous build, my goal is to keep this one fun and easy yet still end up with an attractive shelf model. I'll post some images soon. LSP_Kevin
Welcome to the GB mate. I had no idea there were so many of these George kits about! Good to see them being built (even if I haven't started mine yet!). Kev
wingman777
Okay, here's what I'm starting with. Notice the funky green and fine brush strokes left by the previous owner. Must've been Picaso This will not be a problem to overcome
wingman777
More of the same but notice the nice detail this kit gives you in the landing gear bay. They did the same with their Ki-84 kit which I have sitting on my shelf.
wingman777
Oh NOOOO!! Look, somebody shot the engine full of holes... I drill them so I can put the solder in that will make up the spark plug wires. I'll also add the push rods.....too easy. Not sure how much detail I'll put into the engine as most of it won't be noticeable once the prop and spinner are on.
wingman777
This will all look fine with a new coat of paint
wingman777
This is my favorite part The kit cockpit is bogus....note the kit instrumentation on the right side (gray). The dark green is a spare from the Revell Hawker Hurricane kit and the parts on the left came out of the Revell A6M5 Zero. You would not believe how well they fit into the cavity of the Swallow N1K2J kit. Its like they were made for it. I know you purist will say "its not right and you should scratch build a new one that is correct". Well, it's from another Japanes aircraft and once its all put together it'll look just fine, just wait and see. I gotta keep this build moving. bdthoresen
Ronnie- I started one of these about a week and a half ago to enter the group build, and, because of my stupid AMS tendencies, I am trying to super detail it. I did not start a thread, because I have a real tendency to not finish by the deadline! But I like this kit.... Good to see you taking the plunge- Let's see what you can do!!!!! wingman777
No doubt Thor, AMS is a constant battle. The F4F-4 took me ages to complete and many times I nearly threw in the towel but I'm glad I finished the job. Thats why I let it be known up front that I"m not going to go "all out" with this George even though it is a really good kit and has plenty of potential. All three of the Tomy / Swallow kits of Japanese aircraft are really good, some of the most under-rated 1/32 kits I'm aware of. I've got to keep this one flowing, smooth and easy but I do intend to end up with a respectable build though not a real show stopper. The George and Frank are my favorite Japanese aircraft so I can't let it sink too low. I've been wanting to build this kit for ages so I'm pretty excited. I also have the 1/24 Bandai kit. That one will be super-detailed if I ever get to it.
