  1. I was at Kunsan AB from July 07-July 08. We did an "iron swap" with Eielson AFB. We traded all of our Block 30 Vipers from the 80 FS Juvats for their Block 40 jets. The departing jets were painted at the Kunsan paint barn and flew a good number of sorties in Korea before leaving for Alaska. They were known as Smurfs and Cows. I believe all the D models from Kunsan got the Smurf scheme, but I am not totally sure about that. Link is to a photo I took of one on short final. http://www.flickr.com/photos/fyrebird_wp/1568200477/in/set-72157602412912664 Cheers! Picard
  2. Thanks! I should have it painted by the end of the week and I'll post the results here.
  3. Actually, I dabble with painting flight jackets. My wife and I are expecting our first child, a boy, next May, so I am going to paint up an appropriate leather diaper bag. I thought this was the perfect patch to paint on it. Thanks again for giving this a look!
  4. Thanks, Sluggo, but that is the decal sheet I already found. Unfortunately, it is a little bit too low in resolution. As you can see from the picture below, the baby in the sling has lick of hair and the arrow has a rocket exhaust with more detail than is visible in the decal sheet. They look to me like they are probably red, but it's tough to tell for sure.
  5. Hello All, I'm working on a project that involves the nose art from the B-29 used to drop the X-1. I've been able to find a fair number of black and white photos, but nothing in color other than a low res scan of a decal sheet. If anyone has on hand or knows where I could find a good color image, I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks!
  6. Thank you both for your replies. I am following up with Ian to see about getting some masks made. Mike, that is a great site for sure! Unfortunately, the USAAF stencil is not the one used on the Sabre. From what I have read, it is a font specific to NAA aircraft at the time and has subtle differences between the 1" and 1/2" sizes and that is what has had me in fix on this project for several months! v/r, Picard
  7. Hello all, I am working a 1:1 gun blast panel from an F-86H for a friend. I plan to put some nose art and stencils on it, but I cannot find the appropriate 1" and 1/2" stencil font NAA used on the Sabre. An example can be seen at this link: http://data3.primeportal.net/hangar/michael_supko/f-86d/images/f-86d_11_of_21.jpg If anyone can help out, either with the font or with masks, please let me know! Thanks! Picard
  8. Hey Brian, Scooter Yoak and his dad Bill are good friends of mine. I really enjoyed watching your build of Dixie Boy because I want to do a Quick Silver build for them. If you have never met them, they are fantastic folks. Also, I have a few photos of QS if you need ref pix. v/r, David
