ScottsGT
Mines in the mail as I type this. I guess I should also get the kit to go with it now?
Whitey
I would like to see a picture of the real undercarriage leg - I bet it is not that thick.
Out2gtcha
I would like to see a picture of the real undercarriage leg - I bet it is not that thick. It's not. I'm just not sure at this point if there is anything that could be done to the brass version to correct that.
Ali62
Firstly, thanks to Andy for the review. As this is only my second set that I have produced in brass I am still on a learning curve, all being well there will be more sets done in the future, however I do need to make a few points. Quite a few people were asking for this as a set, well up to today and including today I have not even sold 20 sets......, just a few days short of a month, so I wonder where the huge demand is and or was. As of now they have sold out, however i will be re-ordering another production batch, so they will be available within a week. A few have commented as above on the thickness, ok I admit I may have made an error with that I used the KIT part as it is, however that is what the kit manufacturer supplied, and was copied by another undercarriage company as well, so if you did manage to build the kit from the box with the very flimsy u/c you would still have that as a problem. The actual thickness is 2mm, I may guess most would maybe like to see at around 1-1.5 mm thick, well at 1mm I think it may start to bend. This is a problem with scale modelling.....thickness of materials, there is NO model yet that has managed true scale in thickness. My favourite comparison is the wonderful Tamiya Spitfire the removable cowling panel are 0.4 mm thick, amazing stuff, well in true scale not that great at basically 1/2" or 13mm thick, so there you have it chaps. Also it is tricky to gauge at what stage of thickness would the brass still yield enough strength so it too does not bend!!!!!! Anyway it is a lesson learned for the future, at least with this set of undercarriage your model will stand on the undercarriage for many years to come........... For those that what to thin the brass down, it is possible with files and with motor tools, I have tried it on the brass material to remove the casting stubs, so with care it could be done. Ok chaps that is my side of the discussion, these will remain in stock for a while and further sets will be developed, some of them I will be asking you guys on LSP your thoughts, as some have been requested since I started with the OV-10 set. Lastly thanks to many that have supported my new venture so far, there are some other much larger projects in the pipeline, but these will be in between 1/72 and 1/48 stuff as well. cheers Ali David66
Out2gtcha
Firstly, thanks for chiming in Ali. No disrespect intended with my comment, only a fact of the matter. I'm honestly not super worried about the copy I purchased as this set is VERY needed, and to me the thickness is secondary. This solution is WAY better than the OOB gear by leaps and bounds. I may try to thin mine down but not sure about that yet. I don't want to do anything to compromise the strength of the gear.
ScottsGT
As you said, a few minutes with a flat file and a little jewelers file and it can be easily thinned. Thanks again for these. Looking forward to others you produce as well! Out2gtcha
Out2gtcha
Thanks again for these. Looking forward to others you produce as well! Indeed, I will as well! Especially with the subjects continuing to hopefully be ones that desperately need the extra strength!
