A-1H Skyraider "Miss Eileen" Update 9/21 FINISHED =-)

Recommended Posts

Well this little beauty showed up in the mail this morning a few days early (Thanks Jack!)

From This kit I will be building a USAF A-1J From the  1st SOS NKP 1969

She will be marked using Zotz decals for Miss Eileen

I have all the parts in the box to do the USAF modifications courtesy of Jack( again) so I'm all set. I'll decide later what else I'm going to put  in and on the plane as far as A/M, I'm going to get a good ways into my A-4 build before I get this one going.

All the best,

Paul

Boy, your going to be busy, yet happy, happy, happy....building 3 kits. I have this in the stash but I didn't realize until recently that I'll need their weapons set that was sold separate :(

Oh well, I have some time before I get to her. Anyway, can't wait to see you start cutting, sanding, and smelling some glue. I mean, putting glue :D

Absolutely going to be a busy place for sure. I'm sure a lot of guys like me, are struggling to finish up current builds so we can join in the festivities.

Mike,

The "busy" part of this is trying to keep track of and do what moderating I have to do ( thankfully not much with you guys in here) and keep track whats going on with all these great builds! I figured maybe 10-15 folks would show up...I am THRILLED I was wrong. The Skyraider will actually start getting worked on here shortly, but I want to get a bigger chunk of the Skyhawk knocked out first so I'm on "cruise control" with that one before I get buried in it.

 All the best,

 Paul

The Skyraider will actually start getting worked on here shortly, but I want to get a bigger chunk of the Skyhawk knocked out first so I'm on "cruise control" with that one before I get buried in it. I don't mind two at once, it's just got to be comfortable enough to switch between the two. The Skyraider is also HUGE compared to the A-4 so the space requirement also dictates build process.

 All the best,

 Paul

Me too Matt!  I hope you're still going to at least get your initial post up before you leave?  We'll save a spot for ya!

  • 3 weeks later...

Well Folks,

I wasn't going to break into this one until I got a good chunk of Skyhawk done. I am in the finishing stages of that project and wanted to do something I don't normally do. I am putting a pilot in my Skyraider.  :)  He's still a WIP but he really looks the part to me, and fills up the cockpit nicely. You will only really see him from the shoulders up, but I did mostly eliminate the molded on G suit from the waist down with MR. Surfacer and sanding.

I still may paint his helmet OD, I have seen them painted all kinds of colors in Pics in Skyraiders, but I did his helmet white in case I change my mind. He just needs a bit more blending and he's all done. Next,  I will finish the pit details and install the pit and pilot into the body of the plane at the same time.

Thanks for looking in on build number two, I'm really looking forward to this one!
