mywifehatesmodels
Here's my newest completion. I have four of the DML 1/48 scale Fw 190A kits. Three are A-5s and one an A-8. I had started them all as a simultaneous build, then left them for a bit. I came to a point in my current commission project that I needed a break, to regain my sanity (It's a nightmare of a project). So I jumped on one of the A-5 kits, just to knock it out in a hurry. I spent about two days on it. There's plenty of flaws, both with the kit and with my work, so don't look too close! It was fun, though and helps me to transplant some of my shelves full of "kits", to shelves full of "planes". Thanks for looking, John P.S. Thanks to LSP Kevin for posting his A-8 build. That was the nudge that got me to working on this, again. Edited August 25, 2011 by mywifehatesmodels
LSP_Kevin
That's gorgeous John! Do any of your examples have any of the warpage exhibited by mine? I was told recently that they all have problems with the fuselage around the wing root area. Kev
mywifehatesmodels
That's gorgeous John! Do any of your examples have any of the warpage exhibited by mine? I was told recently that they all have problems with the fuselage around the wing root area. Kev Thanks, Kevin! It's funny you should mention that. I've built several of these in years past. It's a known issue that the fuselage is not wide enough in this kit to meet up with the wing roots, so a "spreader" bar of some sorts is usually the fix. I've used this method without issue, including this build. However, I was just doing some dry fitting on the next one in the pile (probably going to be an A-6 when I'm done) and found that, not only are there the typical large gaps at the wing roots, but on this one the fuselage does appear to be warped inward. Even with an internal brace to push the sides out, the joint at the roots is going to have a crescent shaped gap. This is the first one that I've seen like this, but if yours was the same way, it must not be an isolated issue. I still have two more beyond these and I'm hoping they're not as bad as the one I worked on today. John
LSP_Kevin
Thanks for the info John. Mine had fuselage halves that were twisted along their entire lengths, which I was never able to completely fix. This threw off the fit of the cowling and mucked up the sit of the tailplanes. I figured the 'pinched' wing roots were part of that, but it sounds like it's actually a separate issue. A spreader bar fixed my wing root gaps up nicely though. I've got two more in the stash too, so here's hoping for better luck for the both of us! Kev
