A small thing, the ITaF 104 used the Chaff/Flares inserted only during the operation "Ace Guard" 1st Gulf War based on Erhac Turkey.

That's what I thought too, and would have said that, but then I found this photo.

The caption claims it was taken in January 1990, which is one year before Ace Guard started. Either the caption is wrong, or they started to be fitted before Ace Guard.

Looks like the launchers started getting installed on Italian F-104s as early as 1988.

Yes, it's likely the actual dispenser module was only fitted for combat ops such as Ace Guard.

I don't think the box art showing the loaded dispensers on “3-01†is correct. All of the Ace Guard photos I've seen show aircraft having both the small grey Squadron code and the small low-viz roundels, while the kit only has “3-01†in the large white codes, plus the small low-viz roundels are not included for any option. The instructions also show the dispensers as an option for F-104S “9-41â€,while as far as I know, the dispensers were not fitted to F-104S models.

I have the kit, and unfortunately it didn't include the right version for the dutch recce pod (bummer......), which i wanted to build, but then again i forgot about the AM pod, so i have to order that one.

In all the italeri 104's present a more "sophisticated" outcome as to the Hasegawa issue, but even that one is presentable with a little TLC......
