Hi, I'm away from my home and I don't have all my books with me but, as far as I remember, this herringbone schema was adopted for a few months only, therefore the scarcity of photographs and it has been replaced by the more common 74/75/76 German pattern. Yes, I agree, it will be difficult to do with a brush, specially at this scale. In facts I did them with an airbrush, firstly using masks and then blending colors free-hand.
