DaveJ
So! Since I destroyed a Thunderbolt already and still want to finish something in this GB I've decided to do a franticly fast build (for me) of this venerable Revell kit. I didn't even build one of these as a kid! It'll be straight OOB except for some belts. I think I have some RAF Eduard belts around here somewhere... I spent about two hours this evening starting to slap this together. Couldn't help but do some painting of the surprising amount of interior details offered but we're talking rattle-cans, a brush and little regard for getting everything 'just so' since it'll all vanish anyway. I hope to be at the filling and sanding stage by the weekend.
ruzlkampf
HoooRayyy!!!! Cool Dave! "Big block" Griffons are soooo tough. I'm still looking at the parts left over from the Mk.XIV build, thinking I've GOT to build something with em. Gorgeous airframe. Sorry to hear about the Jug, I've gaped in slack jawed horror as I've accidentally smashed/dropped/bounced off a wall/....AND... stomped on a few kits myself! Can't wait to see how this builds up straight outta the box. Just looking at what's left of mine, it has a lot of potential and I'm not throwing any of it away. Whoohoo!, this is going to be great watching this go together! Acquired a lot of reference material, so if you need any scanned pics, or decals,or spare parts...feel free to PM and enquire. I'll contribute anything you might lack to get this done by the dead-line, OK? Awesome (2nd)choice on a subject for this group-build Dave! Wasn't it you who told me,"you can never have too many Spitfires?" Bwhahaha. The irony. Later, Russ
LSP_Kevin
Nice to see this one get off the blocks Dave. Are you using the kit decals too? Kev

This won't hold a candle to yours, but it is true that one can never have too many Spitfires! Nice to see this one get off the blocks Dave. Are you using the kit decals too? Kev I haven't even looked for aftermarket decals, but I might. The kit decals don't allow for painting invasion stripes since the numbers are printed as part of the stripes decal. I'll have to see what else is available.

DaveJ
So much for being at the sanding and filling stage by now. Did get a few things done however. The Eduard belts are on and the seat finished. My painting and wash sure look overdone in the harsh view of a macro lens but I think they're OK for mortals. Not sure if they're exactly the right belts for this post-war bird. They just said RAF Late. The cockpit is pretty much installed now including the interesting decal for the IP. I'm joining the fuse halves now. Looks like it'll be a bit snug but should go together OK.
LSP_Kevin
Nice work Dave, and good to see some progress. I'm looking forward to building this kit myself someday! Keep plugging away mate, as I'm really looking forward to seeing this one finished (as I'm sure you are too!). Kev

DaveJ
Thanks lads! Here's where we're at tonight... The fuselage is closed: And the wing assembly is well under weigh. This is a very different approach to a kit than I've experienced before, with a multi-part lower wing that includes spars to help achieve the final wing angle. Hopefully it works out. Here is a view of the separate pieces starting to go together: And how they look all together: I'm trying to get on a roll here.... Wish me Godspeed! LSP_Kevin
You can do it Dave. Just don't take any detours into Russville and you'll be fine. Kev
Loic
Hi Dave, looking very nice. I have that one kit unbuilt in the stasch and I have always wondered why such a complicated split of the parts!? You are doing a great job so far, keep up the good work! Cheers, loic
DaveJ
This sure is a convoluted way to put a wing assembly together! Not to mention the very shaky means of joining the wings and fuselage. But hey... Why not?
