New Releases

There is too much negativity here lately on new releases in my opinion. We have many new companies bringing new subjects in our scale and even with their flaws it is a godsend.  I am personally tired of seeing the slamming of manufactures on research errors.  Pointing out errors is fine, but these new players are getting zero thanks for giving us something new. If it isn't perfect, belly up and model it perfect or start your own company to sell to us.

I am sure those watching us are open to change to improve but we are getting a huge vibe of perfectionism or it's crap and that's not right.  LSP is not a place to slam manufactures for flaws,  it is a place to identify them, find a solution and share that, a place where changing them or not is up to the builder and not judged, change or leave as is is accepted,  a place where beginners are welcome and we want them to contribute. Being so critical on a new release surely doesn't encourage more to join for fear of a lack of knowledge. Not cool..

I commend these folks for bringing forward  these releases, hats down, flaws or not

Here Here! And in keeping with Ron's theme, the next ultra negative kit slamming/flaming that were see on LSP will get the offending poster drawn and quartered, placed on "the rack", and boiled in hot oil! Seriously be thankful for what we have instead of wishing for perfection that few can ever deliver.. including ourselves.

I can plead guilty to the "I wish they had done *this* variant instead if *that* one" syndrome, but don't like product-knocking over tiny accuracy issues. Overzealous perfectionism can, when unnecessarily anal, absolutely kill the joy of getting a new kit for the rest of us.

There are some great newcomers and I will do my infinitesimally small bit to support them by buying some, but mark is important.

I've been waiting for the Kittyhawk OV-10A, and will wait for a bullnose or two-stage Merlin Mosquito from Hong Kong Models. It's not a criticism, it's just a limitation of budget, space, time to build and the knowledge that, in 1/32, there's very little likelihood of building more than one of any type.

Well said Ron. I totally agree on all your points! I'm just pretty damn happy Glen is bringing us some new subjects... They look great! I will buy them, build them and enjoy them whether they are spot welded, riveted or glued together... doesn't matter to me!!

Cheers

Alan

I totally agree! ... And correct - IT"S NOT COOL ... not in the slightest.

I have heaps of model kits (way too many according to some) ... And, although I've replaced some of my earlier, poorly researched purchases, with much better examples - I've never complained about the purchase (per se)

Although I did whine about the Hasegawa Bf109E ... a little ... maybe ... It was only my lack of skill which prevented me from fixing the build.

I like to know about a kits flaws - so that I can consider them before I buy it ... But seriously???? ... The negativity is soul destroying.

Could people please not post the "I've found and error - na-na-na, na-nah" rubbish ... unless they've A/ got the proof of the issue existing (before posting) and B/ got a solution to FIX the issue in question (also before posting).

The approach of ... "I'm going to buy this other kit because they're sooooo perfect and special and I'm such a fan boy ... whiles't (insert the other manufacturers name here) is sooooo error ridden" ... is actually not a solution to the problem at all!

Polls on "Which kid in the class is most popular" suck also ... sorry, use any justification you want ... it still sucks!

I love the newness and fresh ideas of the industry recently (meaning the last 10-15 years) ...

The innovators (Trumpeter, HpH, Kitty Hawk, Azur, Fly, Zoukei-Mura, HK Models ... I'm talking about you guys!) that say:

"What if we made more detail?" ... "What if we made the assembly of the kit a whole lot different?" ... "I want to have a crack at something totally off the popular track" ... "So they say a 4 engined heavy can't be mass produced in 1/32? ... Well I think we can!"

... Good on them! ... Everyone has to start somewhere! ... I'm glad they've had the guts to go out a give it a crack and not be afraid of making an error or two along the way ...

I've recently finished building 3 Bf109G-6's ... from 3 different manufacturers (Revell, Hasegawa and Trumpeter) ... All have errors ... All have a spot or two of AM ... And all have some tweaking done (thanks to Thierry's 'Tweak Lists') - the only caveat being - only those tweaks done, that my skill set allowed!! ... ALL ended up with about the same cost attached ... and ALL were fun to build!! ... My preference? - Not one over the others - they all look the same when finished!

For me, a forum gives benefit when a kit error is announced, and solution given in a neutral manner. Or posting asks of a solution and one is given.

It is then up to me to determine whether it is enough of an error to execute correction, or move on.

Same thing happens at a show or meeting. You place your build on the table, and a pork sandwich eating fella steps up determined to point out all

the errors with your build. Who enjoys that?

And Yes, I have been so very pleased with the explosion of kit releases by everyone!

Admittedly, I can't even keep up with getting the ones I want...

It's funny to see this thread at the same time as the Blenheim thread has resurfaced, I thought Graham F's post in that thread was extremely negative "50 tops" ie. orders for the kit, I'm hoping more will commit when the images of the prototype are released.

Imagine if Wingnut had announced their first kits prior to any images, probably had the same negative comments, and how many kits have they sold since? More than 50 perhaps..? And maybe such a comment will prevent Benoit from posting on here again?
