Gerhard
Hmm, will have to get me some of these, also for the 1/24 Trumpeter one on my stash. Model_Monkey and BiggTim
Out2gtcha
Wow cool...................did anyone ever make these work with the OOB shroud? Just curious. Ive got a set of the QB ones, but at some point would like to do an UN-shrouded Mustang. BiggTim
BiggTim
Steve said he's working on some shrouds to match, so stay tuned! Model_Monkey, CANicoll and Out2gtcha
CANicoll
Wow cool...................did anyone ever make these work with the OOB shroud? Just curious. Ive got a set of the QB ones, but at some point would like to do an UN-shrouded Mustang. Not yet, the openings in the OOB Shroud are very narrow so I'm a bit concerned that widening the openings enough will pretty much ruin the OOB shrouds. I'll take a look at this in a week or so I think, depending on how the painting goes. Steve from MM did say he's looking at making his own set of shrouds. I'll keep pinging him on it. CANicoll
Tim did an awesome job on his review, and even better, he did a lot of 'normal' things to the exhausts which I did not do, like lightly sanding the outsides a bit and reaming out the exhaust openings some as well. Good to know that these exhausts take a bit of 'grooming' just fine. I am very much looking forward to the shrouds and hope that Steve can work them up for us pretty quickly. Nicely written Tim!! TimHepplestone
Very interesting. Can't help but wander how much impact 3D printing is going to have on the hobby. I would expect a big one Edited May 21, 2018 by TimHepplestone Out2gtcha, Model_Monkey and BiggTim
Out2gtcha
Can't help but wander how much impact 3D printing is going to have on the hobby. I would prefect a big one I hope it becomes main stream, like the paint mask cutters have! One can only imagine the possibilities with a home 3D print system up to snuff to make absolutely ANY part needed. Jim Barry
Cool products in Model Monkey's shop especially if you like ship models . I just found it last week. Wow! Model_Monkey
Out2gtcha
If MM can produce a shroud that will work not only with their own P-51 exhausts, but will somehow also work in the OOB slot for the OOB shrouds in the Revell P-51, I think sales of these will go up considerably. CANicoll
Agreed Brian, and I know he's working on the shrouds for Revell. I'm not sure about the Tamiya kit - may have missed the window on that but I don't know the cost to design each piece. I actually would buy the exhausts and shrouds for both my next Revell and Tamiya P-51D builds if I could get the shrouds to go with the exhausts. Seems like my two subjects (LouIV for Revell and Duchess Arlene for the Tamiya kit) both use shrouded exhausts. Model_Monkey
Two Mustang exhaust shroud designs are at the printer now for test pieces to ensure they will fit the Revell kit well. They are designed to have a very slight, realistic gap around the exhaust pipes. As soon as they have been printed and evaluated for fit (about a week), they will be offered for sale. Here's the webpage for each: P-51 Mustang exhaust shrouds (just the shrouds, no exhausts): http://shpws.me/QiYH P-51 Mustang hollow exhausts with shrouds: http://shpws.me/QiYu Edited May 24, 2018 by Model_Monkey BiggTim and Out2gtcha
