Guys,

Our very hard working moderator Kevin's computer (the one he uses to keep this site running)has died and I would like us to help him get another one.

He does an extreme amount of hard work keeping our favourite site running which means that we get to enjoy the site.

I am putting it on here without any input from Kev.

If Kevin would like to organise a paypal address that we could deposit to, I would like to kick things off by forwarding $50 AUD to him.

If lots of people contrite a small amount then he will have a new computer in no time.

Eric.

Thanks, guys. I must confess that I'm a bit humbled by this gesture. It's true: my computer appears to have died, and I can't afford to replace it. It's a Mac mini, around 4-5 years old, and while I'd love a huge new iMac, even just getting back to square one will be costly enough. I'm going to have it looked at during the week, to see if the hard drive is OK, but l fear the worst. I've either got a working computer with my data trapped inside it, or a hard drive full of data that I can't access.

Anyway, I'm the last person who wants to appear ungrateful, so here's my PayPal address:

kfutter@optusnet.com.au

If I end up funding a new computer through some other means, I'll refund anyone who contributes.

Man, it's exhausting typing out posts on the iPad!

Not wanting to start up a war or anything, but just as an example, last year I bought my son an iBook (he needed Mac-only software for his college course) and my daughter a Dell laptop.. For less than half the price, the Dell was far better specced than the Mac.

And I hate laptops of any description.A regular PC desktop is far cheaper and easier to maintain due to the component specification being universal and subject to greater competition. If the PSU dies, a new one is £25 away. The same with hard drives, memory, video cards or sound cards (depending on your desired quality).

Now that the 'infallibility of Macs' spell has been broken I'd seriously suggest you have a rethink as to their actual value as opposed to their perceived value.

I'm in for £10 when you set up your Paypal account.

I'm in and going to PayPal in just a few minutes. I'm a Apple Mac guy all the way

$25 is on it's way - always there for a friend

Just kicked in $25 - thanks Kev for all your hard work. In any community like this there's always at least one person who works his ring out to make it awesome, and it's great to have the chance to recognise that. Hope we get enough to fund the iMac Kev is after.

Cheers

Jim

Just sent you $60 AUD mate. You do a great job and I don't know how you find time to keep the site running, especially when things go pear shaped.

Thanks alot to all the guys who have contributed so far. Even if it is a few dollars, if lots of people do it then we can all get Kev back up and running pronto.

Eric.

If I am adding up correctly, we have $120 so far!

Eric.
