SW CR.32

Ron - that's just the box art, you'll need to wait and see what scheme I do ;) To answer your question, this scheme is Italian aluminum dope overall (which is apparently more grey than British aluminum dope) - White Ensign do a tin of the Italian Aluminum dope if you are interested.

Ok made some progress, washed up all the bits, and cleaned up the interior parts. Also painted the aluminium and linen colors on the interior parts. Still have to paint the remaining parts in their assorted colors:

Here is a size comparison the the CHD 109E4 I am also working on:

Note that nothing is glued on the CR.32 at this point (nor are the wings glued on the 109). I have to say with this being my first SW kit, I am extremely impressed by the quality/fit/finish of the kit parts. Once the interior is done, this thing should be off to the races for finishing it. I dare say it might even be easier overall than doing an injected molded kit because there are less parts since you can mold more detail with the resin than you can with injected plastic :)

Cheers,

Doug

Nice start Doug. You have a jump on me, I've just managed to get some of the interior floor details added.

Are you using Alum. for the entire interior? I was going to go Int green then read some info that it was light gray?

Is it actually Alum?

Ron,

Since I have yet to actually glue anything, you might be ahead ;)

Regarding the cockpit, from what I have been able to determine, it appears that early CR.32's (ones with aluminium dope exteriors, or early Spanish Civil War aircraft) had silver or light grey interiors, whereas later CR.32's might have had interior green. I am nowhere near an expert on this aircraft, and may be completely wrong, but the only good photos of a CR.32 interior I could find were aluminum with linen sides (so I went with that):

Hope this helps!

Hi,

I have this kit as well and have done some digging on the interior colour. According to the Stormo! website the metal parts of the cockpit were painted Grigrio azzuro chiaro, a light blue-grey colour, Fs 36307. The Cr 32 with the aluminium interior is one that was licence built in Spain.

Hans,

Can you provide any photos (or links to photos) that show this? I have read lots of speculation, but have not seen much in the way of proof to support any particular color as the "standard" :)

Good start to a cool looking kit here Doug. :D

Ive been having a quandary lately about the newest topic for GB, and this multi-wing build. When I get the He-51, Ill see if I have it in me for two GBs.

Great looking kits from SW, looking forward to more.

Cheers,

Brian

Hi Doug,

Here is a pic of a CR 32 interior that is blue grey.

cr32d.jpg

I also found a pic of the CR 32 with the silver interior, saying it was a licence-built CR 32.

And a link to an article on the Stormo! website saying that the interior of the CR32 was blue-grey.url="http://www.stormomagazine.com/ModelArticles/FiatCR32/FIATCR32_VT_1a.html"]http://www.stormomagazine.com/ModelArticles/FiatCR32/FIATCR32_VT_1a.html[/url].

On the other hand, this very nice drawing shows the interior in a shade of green (verde anticorrosione?) :D

Thanks for the links Hans :) I had read those build articles perviously, as well as the STORMO! Color Guide they link to.

Unfortunately, there was no definitive answer there, as the color article states "Most Italian WW II aircraft interiors were painted in Verde Anticorrosione FS 34272 although many variations in interior colors existed, depending on the paint supplier." Further, the author indicates that an interior color directive was issued in 1941 to paint interiors "Grigio Azzurro Chiaro 1" (the blue grey color), which took "full effect" in 1942.

Based on this I would say that since the CR.32 is a 1930's aircraft, one could definitely paint the interior metal bits in 34272, although there is nothing to rule out aluminium as well, since we have photos of both. The photo of the "blue grey" interior is interesting, as that should not really be a choice unless that CR.32 were manufactured in 1941 or later, or had been in for major repair service, at that point it would have a painted (or repainted perhaps) in "Grigio Azzurro Chiaro 1" per the 1941 directive.

As painful as it can sometimes be, researching colors/markings is actually one of the enjoyable parts of modeling (at least for me) :)

As I've already committed to aluminium, I will probably keep it that was since it is indeed a possibility based on photographs (even if it might be a license built aircraft).

Cheers,

Doug

I have several exterior and interior shots of this aircraft I can send someone to up load? I'd love to contribute here but I can't seem to get the photobucket to work for me! grrrr.

Ron - I am finishing up another project, and hope to get back to the CR.32 soon. The wings should be easy enough to attach, once I get to that point, I'll be glad to document for you. The biggest hassle I see with this kit is those @(#*&@(& cooling fins on the nose :)

@ Troy, you can email them to me and I can post them to my photobucket. I'll PM you my email address.

Cheers,

Doug
