Although Brit Spits - Still one of my favourite pre-invasion images...

That said, plenty of very last minute make do and mend... and gut instinct says the the Squadron Leader’s a/c got by far the neatest job!

Stange that the memo states that  gliders and transport shouldn't have stripes.

 

The Horsa still had then at Arnhem ! And all C-47's I've seen in pictures too.

Maybe the other part of the order about shooting down anything without stripes spooked the transport and glider drivers :)

The second photo above posted by Torben has some interesting stripe chipping going on.

 

You don't see that being depicted very often on models, but it could be an interesting effect.

Troop carriers on the other hand do get the stripes as per the order posted above. That does explain at least the C-47s. Not sure if the Horsa was also considered a troop carrier...
