Won't you be my Valentine: Complete 12/Jun/18

Hi everyone,

This is my first attempt at a destroyed tank.  I only have 18 days to finish as it's part of a group build.

There are lots of photos of destroyed Valentines out there, and they usually fit into two categories:

1.  Blown to pieces... really hard to model without detailed knowledge of the beast's innards.  Most photos in this category appear to Russian-use lend lease machines.

2.  Not much external damage, and usually just some holes near the center of the hull beneath the turret.  As it runs on diesel, there aren't many pics of them in a totally scorched state.

IN this photo there appears to have been a cook-off of one round at the base of the turret causing a scorch mark up it's side.

I didn't want to leave the damaged track in a long line outside of the vehicle.  So, I tried to emulate some of the damage from a destroyed Russian-use machine:

I thought it would be more visually interesting.

Thanks for looking!

What kit are you using?

I apologize for the huge pic.  It came from the miniart website.  I talked to some fellows from my armored SIG club and they pretty much said that any Valentine model Except the one with the cast front hull would have served in North Africa and that Miniart only threw in some Russian Tankers to create the "Russian" version.

Hi everyone!

I am Luvin my new Iwata Hp-B!

Except for dry-brushing the silver on the tracks, all of the painting on the chassis was done by airbrush.  I'm amazed at the accuracy that can be attained with a better A/B.

Here are the photos...

I'll call this state D+0 (Destroyed plus zero days).  I want to put a few days onto that showing rust starting to get a grip as well as the dust that would be packed onto the chassis by day-to-day existence in Libya.

Thanks for looking!

Hi Everyone,

Most of the evening and part of the morning adding rust and dust...  And a shellhole.  First I washed the tracks 3 times.  Yellow oxide, then burnt sienna, and finally burnt umber.

Then I dry-brushed the 'metal' surfaces with three shades of red-brown-orange I mixed with Tamiya enamels.

Finally I made a paste with four pigments, white, gray, yellow, and brown, mixed with glass cleaner and water.

Last step was to dust it off where I wanted color to show through.

The results:

The shell hole was made with a soldering iron.  Now...I can attach the superstructure.

Thanks for lookin,

I've used the harsh sunlight to highlight my elements for this update:

The markings on this tank are completely spurious and incomplete.  This was to be a fun, new type of build experience.

I know.  It makes me look lazy.  But the cool thing is:  I made all of the markings with my Silhouette Portrait.  I need the practice!

To help to complete the image of destroyed and abandoned, the tank had to look a little looted, too.  Stolen toolbox, open and empty storage boxes, and a lack of pioneer tools anywhere.  I left the fire extinguisher, but put a hole in it.  The coax MG has been taken too.  And why are the container interiors Green?  Because I wanted to throw in some color variation and give a bit of story that the tank had once been green.
