OK, folks....here are the decals that will come with the AD-5 Navy Skyraider kit, Caracal will also release a separate sheet with more, including the very colorful Utility scheme as well as GSB and others at the same time as I release the kit.

I have mastered the target reel fairing for the Utility and other birds that were often used for target towing so you will be able to do them if you wish.

Also below are some in-the-works pics of the AD-5W Guppy  version  mocked up on my "mule". This will be a completely separate kit as it requires a totally different interior and of course the metal rear cabin filled with electronics and APS-20 radar fairing. I have even found a very nice VAW-12 subject for the decals with some nifty nose-art on the cowl.

If there's enough interest I will do further conversion parts and decals for the AD-5N and Q which would also allow for a EA-1F .

Ok Paul, money is set aside and burning a hole in my pocket. Love that you found a Light Gull Gray Marine Corps bird! Bring it!

ohhh gorgeous!  Are there differences between USAF and Naval versions aside from the decal sheet? Interested in seeing that target reel once it's ready also, for a side project in case I could use it in my RNZAF Avenger target tug

Oh man, I'm soooo glad I held off ordering this already.  I'm all over the AD-5W Guppy.

Remember, all USAF A-1E's began life as USN AD-5's....not much difference other than wheels and paint jobs. The Navy birds only used the original Douglas seats and they had no right hand control sticks or rudder pedals. Then there were the oddball night fighter and ECM variants which have vastly different right seat instrument panels and gobs of black boxes and operator stations in the back, as well as some nifty radar and searchlight pods. Not sure yet how far I will venture into the N and Q variants.

The AD-5N and AD-5Q and W didn't carry the add-on armor but most of the regular duty Navy ships did, so I have made up two fuselages, one with armor and one without. The target towing fairing completely covers the reel and frame except at the very aft end, I don't think it will fit an Avenger at all since it was a Douglas design made up for the Skyraider. TBM's had round bellies, the Spad is flat.

I will be taking orders for the Navy AD-5 kits soon, the AD-5W Guppy will  be ready when the decals are printed, after the AD-5's. I'm still working on all the cockpit details for the W, it must have been like an oven back there with all those vacuum tubes cooking away.

Hi

Paul

Looks fantastic but of course, mine has to be in Gloss Dark Sea Blue. Just proud I was number one to order the AD5.

How did you pull that off, Peter? I don't think they are up for sale yet.
