Zero77
Thanks for the nice words ! I progress quite slowly those last days as i'm quite tired and i often fall asleep before getting to the bench.... I hope to be able to get more free time pretty soon. This weekend, i just finished to paint the old fashion crosses on the wings. They will later be covered with grey paint and then i'm going to apply the kit decals, which are straight crosses, but of a slightly different kind (non standard thin crosses). But i have to train myself to do that with a paintbrush until i'm pleased with a realistic and scaled result : Whitey and Vandy 1 VX 4

Zero77
I tried to make the overpainting on the old crosses. According to the WNW instructions, the paint used to overpaint the former markings was certainly just a mix of white and black, so i used the humbrol number indicated in the instructions, which is pretty neutral. I tried several times, with thin coats, very thin coats, thicker coats, more or less thinned. I tried to get some kind of brush strokes, as i think that on the field paint touch-ups in WW1 were certainly mostly done by brush. I ended with this result. It's not that bad, but i'm not really satisfied. It's a bit messy in my opinion, even if the actual overpainting was certainly a bit messy as well. This evening, i am going to try to clean the edges to get them more straight, and maybe mask the border and slightly spray a flash of thinned paint to level the effect and get something a bit cleaner, while preserving just a slight brush strokes effect. With trimmed final markings decals, in order to get an idea of the final effect : On the underside, the effect is quite good in my opinion, as the older crosses are not a lot larger than the new ones, and the neutral overpainted grey is quite close from the light blue. But on the upper side, it's still a bit weird.... Maybe i should try to slightly darken the grey so it would be a bit closer from the green. The advantage is that this time, i work with enamels on acrylics. So i can erase any mistakes without any problem. And i already did it 2 or 3 times on each wings.... (on my first attempt, i used acrylics over acrylics, so first mistake = last mistake). tucohoward and Whitey

Zero77
I've finished the "overpainted markings" effect and applied the new decals over it. As planned i've sprayed a slight coat of thinned paint over the brushed area to smooth it and level the colors. I've darkened a bit the grey on the upper wing to have a better match with the darker green. Finally i'm pretty happy with the result. Zero77
After finishing the Nieuport 11, i really missed something german in my display case. This albatros was started more than 2 years ago, now it's time to finish it ! I finally made my second attempt for the mottling. I'm still not 100% satisfied, but it's way better and more subtle than the first time. Maybe i dont really know what i try to achieve, as when i see the reference picture, it looks correct. Maybe it's just weird in 1/32. I masked the swastika before doing the mottling as on the reference picture, the mottling seem ligther in the middle of it. I think the various camo and marking were done in this order : 1 : old type crosses 2 : swastika 3 : mottling camo 4 : new type crosses I would have been too risky to mask the swastika decal, so i just masked the area before. I was happy to unmask the engine. Almost 2 years that it has not seen the daylight. A few spark plugs were broken, so i will have to repair that. Zero77
Thanks guys ! As i was still feeling something was weird with the camo, i densified it a bit, but with a finer sponge. Now i think it matches better the reference picture, and it appears more green. I think now it's ok, and i can continue. Zero77
I just ordered a HGW photoetched radiator for the Albie. So while i'm waiting for it, i have to progress on the other sub-assemblies. I finished the decals and applied a coat of matt varnish over them to break the glossyness (i fogot to do it on the wings at the same time.... stupid !). Then i wanted to check what it looks like with the twin Spandaus. I built them a long time ago (almost at the begining of the build) with the kit PE. The kit PE is nice but i found difficult to make them fit with the gun receiver diameter, so it just ended with a mess. And then they wandered on my desk for almost 2 years and now they dont look very good. So i decided to try the nice master set. And i also decided to try soldering them instead of using CA (at least for the sleaves). It was not very easy as this is very small, but finally i'm very happy with the result. The soldering is almost invisible. I still have some small parts to add, these ones will be glued with CA. This evening i hope i will have enough time to put them in the burnishing bath. And here it is. I really like that engine with the great Taurus detail parts (with opened and closed valves according to the real engine cycle !). I still have to weather the exhaust (not glued).
