dsahling1
I was thinking of doing the Tamiya 1/32 F-4J OOB as 'Showtime 100' I was thinking I was a little tired of aftermarket....but then my thinking and OCD started kicking in. What do you guys think is the Avionix 1/32 f-4j cockpit worth it? Or is the Tamiya good enough on its own? Thanks Dan
Marcel111
Dan, Any reason you don't want to use the Aires set? I used the Avionix set on my E and the Aires on my S, the Aires set is a lot easier to work with imo. Cheers, Marcel Michael931080
Miloslav1956
AIRES set very good fit to model.

Cheetah11
Hi Dan, Maybe an alternative, I used Eduard colored photo etch for the front panels, Tamiya for the rest of the tub and Quickboost for the seats. Youngtiger1
Bill_S
The Aires pit comes with unpainted PE. I played around a bit and eventually got here: I'm still working on repopulating my pics into my build thread. http://forum.largescaleplanes.com/index.php?showtopic=50298&hl= Youngtiger1 and Zero77
crobinsonh
Whilst I am no expert on Phantom cockpits I would say that from my own observations (checking various Phantom reference books) the Avionix cockpit looks more accurate for a J. I have used the Aires Phantom cockpit for a Japanese Phantom and the rear area in particular does not look like the references I have but the Avionix one does. This is the same when checking references from Verlinden on the RAF F4J. All said and done the Aires cockpit is a thing of beauty. Kind regards, Youngtiger1
Zero77
The Avionix bathtub is in 2 parts whereas the Aires is 1 part. But the aires bracket with the screwhole doesn't matche the hole in the kit part. That's the Aires way of fit ! Bill_S
Luca
I prefer Black Box one, but it does not include the cockpit etched details
Jasta 14 addict
I'm planning to start my F-4J also, still i need some aftermarket, but i'm not gonna into a whole resin cockpit this time. I will use the colored Eduard pe for the cockpit and some resin ejection seat's. I had done it before with the F-104 and if i see what can be achieved by only the use of colored pe then i want to try that again with the F-4. Kit's cockpit with Eduard pe and Eduard Brassin ejection seat. These photo's not refer to any F-4 Phantom's but it's just to show you that resin isn't always the need to go. Scotsman
Back in the old days when I was buying everything that was going for 32nd Kits , my approach actually was to combine Resin and PE, so a Resin tub tricked out with Eduard Colored PE, ok its an expensive way to go , but it seemed to me to play to the respective strengths of both mediums. Resin, especially Avionix, were never very good at reproducing fine IP details , so over the masters , Eduard to complete things. That being said , I was never a huge fan of PE belts , so back to resin seats with mounded in Belts Mix and match .. there's no perfect approach , just the one that works for you.. jmel
There is a whole bunch of fiction going on in the Aires cockpit set. Wrong seats, mix and match components from various Phantom versions, etc. I'd go with the Black Box or scratch my own. Luca
Jasta 14 addict
That being said , I was never a huge fan of PE belts , so back to resin seats with mounded in Belts Indeed, i second that, but when two pilot's are used into the cockpit, then the use of resin seat's without belt's is the way to go. That's why i wanted to use the Eduard Brassin seat's. Greetz Danny
Dave Williams
Need to be careful about the Avionix/BB seats in their various F-4 sets. I think they are all the same seats and only represent the AF or USN version (don't remember which), so they aren't right for the "other" versions.
