Your picture Kevin has clearly been photoshopped so as a main reference source I wouldn't trust it as authoritative.  Comparing it broadly with images and drawings in Vasco's book "The Messerschmitt BF110 in colour profile" I would say it's an E despite the apparent lack of a scoop on the nose.

I was sort of thinking the same thing, but have no real idea at this point. I'm beginning to think that as long as I can capture the "essence" of the scheme, the particulars become less relevant.

Please elaborate

I'm curious about that too. So far, I can find very few differences externally between the C and E models. The wing racks may be a deal breaker though, and I may end up grinding them off, but not before I do some more reading.

I'd say it's a C, no nose intake, and no enlarged trim tabs on the rudders. Regards wing bomb racks there's a photo of a C-7, though it looks to have the larger D-type rear wheel, here

In Vasco's In Colour Profile book, the profiles in the appendix showing the development of the type doesn't mention the introduction of the ETC 50 racks until the E, but he does say many aircraft were upgraded/retrofitted in the field.

Thanks, Kag. If you're referring to the Schiffer book above (Vasco), I'll check that out. I'm about ready to call this a C with some E type retrofits. Where I'll get the armored glass is still a mystery, but perhaps I can just make some.

I've discovered rather accidentally (never really paid attention before), that between 10:30 and 11:30 (AM), the dining room table is awash with natural early autumn sunlight, so today I decided to take advantage of that fact. Wing assemblies are coming along, though I haven't added the gussets to the wheel wells yet.

The C kit has the same clear parts as the E http://www.1999.co.jp/eng/10250178 then you can use part H 20 as per step 3 on the E instructions.

It's this book I was refering to http://www.amazon.co.uk/MESSERSCHMITT-PROFILE-Schiffer-Military-History/dp/0764322540

Yeah mine's got the same cover as yours, funny what you can find - the E nose intake is also included in all the kits so far. I've got the Dacklebauch kit that I plan to make as per the profile on page 76, which I've just noticed seems to have the larger tailplane trimtabs...  :hmmm:

No, it doesn't. I have the same kit as you and I'm converting it into an E. The enlarged trim tabs look like this:
