"Did Hill Country Hobbies close down, they use to be out on Highway 16/ Bandera Rd between 410 and 1604. Was run and operated by a Retired USAF person? Dibbles is so old their inside ceiling has been collapsing for the last 30 years…. I bought my recent built preowned P-47 from them." I think you are referring to Hobby Center which was not too far from Dibbles back in the day. The owner was a retired USAF Vietnam fighter pilot, I believe. He closed down and sold his floor space to the soccer store next door. I drive by the mini shopping strip where Hill Country Hobbies used to be on a weekly basis. They never look like they are in business. I saw the owner at the hobby show in New Braunfels but didn't talk to him. Dibbles, while still a hobby store, sells mostly airplane model kits and train sets.

You aren't lying about the aging hobby. I go to 2 hobby shows a year, one here in San Antonio, actually New Braunfels and the hobby show in Stafford which is close to Houston. Interesting seeing people age from year to year. But it's always the same people and very new blood. I remember back in the 70's visiting a relative who lived close to San Francisco. My aunt would always take me and my brother to this hobby shop off 19th avenue. Wall to wall models of all kinds. I actually remember communicating with a man who owned a hobby shop in the midwest. This was when the internet as we know it had been around for several years. I remember him telling me at that time he decided to sell his shop cause the writing was on the wall how people were starting to buy their model kits. And he was getting older and no one was around to take his place. This was in the late 90's. Yes, I accept with all the accessories around for the various model kits it's impossible to stock everything. The owner of Dibbles has actually told me to buy on the internet if he doesn't have something I'm looking for. As in, he's not in business to stock everything, and I can understand that.

We now only have 1 real hobby shop here in San Antonio, Dibbles Hobbies. He caters more to the plastic airplane crowd and the model rail road enthusiast. Hobbytown closed down a year or 2 ago. I remember when Dillards, JC Penney, and Sears had a good selection of plastic kits for sale. Damn the internet!

Eli: as far as I can tell, the lettering on The Blue Streak is blue with a white outline, if you are referring to the small stripes on the vertical tail, those are red, white and blue. I could not find that many color photos of this particular plane in color. This plane, as famous as it was, is not in the Squadron walk around on the B-24. The overall paint scheme is olive drab with a light gray underside, maybe a light blue? I will keep looking. I can send you a original Revell decal sheet from their 1/72 B-24 as I believe this is accurate. Also here is a reference to a 1/48 build up of the Monogram B-24D with custom Blue Streak decals: https://hyperscale.com/2008/features/b24djm_1.htm Thanks, Jerry

Hello: here are photos https://www.americanairmuseum.com/archive/aircraft/41-11613 of the Blue Streak, all in black and white with a Revell 1/72 box top version https://www.oldmodelkits.com/index.php?detail=32221&cat=Military Aircraft&scale=1/72 If you scan down the page on this website, you will read an article about how this particular airplane was comparable to the B-17F Memphis Belle in legend https://www.armyaircorps-376bg.com/41-11613_blue_streak.html Thanks, Jerry

Thanks, I didn’t see this post until today. It’s been a pleasure being a member here. If only I had more time to build! Jerry -
Ok, thanks will go to plan b. I did a google search and read a review of his customer service and basically describes both comments. Thank you, Jerry

I was recently looking for replacement decals for my 1/72 Revell B-24D. I noticed there is an individual from Canada who sells Blue Streak decals in various scales. Has anyone had experience dealing with this person? Thanks for any input.

I believe Ocean was off 19th Ave. but the hobby shop was not on 19th. I think we're talking about the same place. There was another hobby shop in San Rafael at that time also.

Was that the hobby shop off 19th avenue? If so, I remember that place back from the '70's. I remember walking in and seeing model kits stacked to the ceiling or it seemed like that. Great place. We have Dibbles locally here in San Antonio and they sell mostly planes and some car model kits. It hasn't changed from the '70's when I was a teenager.

Looks great, if only they would bring back the atomic space explorer that Revell produced back in the '60's.
