rammstein
hello all, At last my supply of styrene plates have arrived so now the fun part can begin. Forming!!!! first I made some plates the same as the lower part of my moulds , with on one side some small dics glued on , on this plates I lay the mould , this is done that no air will be trapped. I place a large piece of styrene between the frame. then I place the wooden plate on the forming table. on this plate I place the mould. Now the heat is turned on , after a while the soffend styrene starts to sag , the heat is turned of and the vacuum pump is started. now the frame with soffend styrene is lowered over the mould and the pump does the rest. I roughly cut away some styrene ,the mould and form is flipped over , the wooden plate removed , I mark with a pancel the lower part of the mould , then I remouve the mould out of the form , with this as end result. I have to repeat this process 3 times more , then the complete hull is formed, stay tuned more to follow. Rammstein
LSP_Kevin
Welcome back mate. Glad you could continue this one. That is a serious piece of vacuforming equipment! Kev
dodgem37
Now that is really neat. Tell me, are you forming this in the back room of a model distributor, or is that truly your stash? Sincerely, Mark

Barry
dodgem37 , that is a part off my pile off scale models Rammstein, You've got an awesome project going...keep it coming! AND I don't feel bad at all now about the "lack" of size of my stash! Barry
LSP_Ron
Interesting. Is that your stash in the background or are you working in a hobby shop?
WrongWay
Most impressive! Looking forward to more progress shots. You sure you don't want to convert it to R/C? You could be like this guy. http://www.bismarck-class.dk/shipmodels/german_models/admiralgrafspeeterra.html

rammstein
hello all, I have been working on my ship now , not as much as I wanted. I hope I can do more from now on.I also make templates of all frames which will make it easy when building another DE I first build the aft part. I glue a strip of styrene in the center of the forms and glue the 2 halves together. I cut out the longitudinal frame , and mark the frames. Then I cut out all the frames , bearing in mind , minus the thickness off the form , also look at the arching or camber of the frames. in this photo , all the frames are temporarely placed inside the form , this is also how it will look in the end, but much stronger. stay tuned, regards, Rammstein

rammstein
hello all, much done today , I reinforced the frames , just to make sure the hull will be strong in the end. I reinforced the frame with styrene 1,5 mm thick by 1,5 cm wide , making sure everything is also square to each other. this is how it looks completed. then I cut out a piece of wood and place it on top off the 1,5 cm styrene strip. then I cut 2 pieces of wood and place them beside the hull , onto this I lay a straight piece of wood and clamp it making sure the straight wood is level , then the frame is also level. under the hull I place a piece of wood , the same shape as the cut out off the longitudinal frame. This is done to give good support. always making sure everything is square and level , then glue the frame and form together using superglue. That this method isn't flawless shows this photo , there is an opening of about 4mm on port side and 2 mm on starboard side.Frame 19 wasn't cut out well ,2 mm short at the base, even the mould has to be corrected on the port side , I have to sand away 2mm on that spot. placing the frames in the hull , 4 frames are glued inside the hull. enjoy, Rammstein

dodgem37
Rammstein, Very clean work. This has turned out to be quite an engineering project, with all of the extra stuff you've needed to make to shape the hull. With the heavy weight styrene you're using, are you cutting these parts out by hand or with power? Nice organization of your Evergreen strips. The background bin that holds all of the rolls; Are they plans, elevations, and sections of other vessels? Sincerely, Mark
