Vaughn,

:wow: Looking very good and tidy..

I like those tiny bottles ..Wicked!!!

:goodjob:

Thanks..the bits on the end were the remains of the stub that went to the kit part..just some careful sanding and the sprue became a gas bottle. It was fun to do.

Cheers

NICE! Im not much into Sci-Fi, but this is a fanTASTIC build! Another one to show off your Talents Vaughn. I went back and re-read the whole thing. I hope to take some valuable skills away from this build!

Glad you are enjoying...we'll see what I can do to give you some idea's. :hmmm:

Cheers

So, back to the big parts... I made the bottom wing, the front inner root curves upwards.....I cut scrap sheet to add the material to make the curve and bent the skin to shape.

To support the wing as it just butts up against the fuselage I made a box spar to run through the fuse.

Great stuff. This is really moving fast and inspiring more creative desires in the rest of us. Can't wait to see how you finish it, especially with all of those "wing" art options.

Thanks,

Thanks guys ! T'narg, the wing art is already decided ! Can't wait to see the reaction when you guys see it !

On to the build.... The lower wings on, It is time to add the rounded bulges at the root. As is usual for me, I found that while a lot of drop tanks and such were close in shape/ size, nothing was right and It was easier to make my own parts than to modify a kit part. I carved the shape from bass wood and as my vacu former isn't ready yet, decided to do a 'heat and smash'. A frame was made from bass wood and an opening for the part cut into it. The hole as you see is about 1/16th oversize to allow for the plastic....

The raised bit on the side is to give me a handle to hold it whilst heating so I don't burn my fingers !

Sheet styrene (1/16th) is tacked to the bottom of the frame....

Then all you do is use your electric stove burner to heat the plastic, then push it down over the master.. a 'poor man's vacu former'.. great for small parts.

The part was trimmed out and a second one made as the rear of it needed a section added to extend into where the rear of the fuselage angles in..

And then trim, sand, fit, trim, sand, fit till it looked right...

Bit by bit it's coming along...

Thanks for watching guys and for the comments. More in a few days.

Thanks guys

Now it was time to get into the wing tanks. Now, most people think the fuel cells are individual because of the dark shadows and the raised parts that show up. Revel made their kit under that premise. Talking with those who worked with the meshes and careful viewing of both the stills and sequences from the show it becomes apparent that the wing tanks are solid..you NEVER see anything through those dark area's. The raised 'ribbing' is just that..stiffeners. This makes sense from a technical point of view..the plumbing and pumps needed to run fuel from all those small tanks would be prohibitive...it just would take up too much space and be too prone to failure/ damage. One large tank per wing makes more sense. This was what stymied my 1/24th scale build years ago.

With this info in hand it's still an exercise in three dimensional modeling...the wing sweeps down and to the rear which stretches the lines and angles...for someone not big on math it was a bit of a mind bender. I drew out the front view as viewed from the top, then drew the lines of where the tanks would go..which gave me the size and spacing needed for the parts..

Leading and trailing edge parts were cut along with strips for the ribs..
