Iain
Got a call from a very old friend of mine a while back - "Hi Iain, do you still build models? I have a project for you..." His son (age 7) is a huge Titanic fan - and his father had ordered the Revell kit to build for him - but had decided he didn't have the time. So - it came to me - and I have until August (birthday) to build it! I thought this was a re-pop of the Academy tooling - but, unfortunately it isn't. It is a little crude in places. I've purchased the Eduard set (for Academy kit) for the railings and some other details - and I guess we'll see where it leads me! Hard work so far - but should get easier from here. Have added a couple of brass light fittings to mount her on - nice and cheap off Ebay - I have a few more set aside for other projects. Have fun! LSP_Ron
I'll be watching with interest. I just picked up the Academy kit last week myself. Ron Iain
Iain
I get the impression the Academy kit is a *lot* sharper Ron! The Eduard etch is a good upgrade - and reasonably priced too... I don't know a lot about the ship - which will probably be an advantage in this instance. Iain

Iain I hadn't realized that Academy even did this in 1:400, though I was aware of the 1:350 version, as I had two of them. At the time that I was involved with my own Titanic kit, I ended up buying eight or so books on the ship, I like it that much, not that that helps you any. Iain
There ya go - I didn't realise Academy did a 1:350 version as well! Do I recall hearing that Trumpeter were going to have a go in 1:200? Or was I dreaming that one? Iain Uncarina and Out2gtcha
Iain
A few more images tonight - before I go back to Spitfires... Now in grey primer (Halfords Car Primer spray can) - and with now obvious gaps filled using Deluxe Perfect Plastic Putty - with the access wiped away with damp tissue. Starting to look a lot better - I *hate* working with black plastic! Very crude/way over-scale railings removed from bow - and holes for equally crude railings filled at the stern... Quite good fun working on something very different for a change! Iain Model_Monkey, Uncarina, LSP_K2 and 2 others
LSP_K2
Yep, this kit (according to several sources), is the best (most accurate) Titanic kit on the market. As to a 1:200 version, I don't really know, but if done right, would be truly awesome indeed. Iain and Uncarina
Iain
That looks really, really, good Kevin - don't recall seeing it this side of the pond - but then I'm not normally looking for ships! Iain LSP_K2
LSP_K2
It is indeed a wonderful kit, Iain. You may or may not recall that I was doing mine sinking (stern up about 30°), from one of my two kits. Naturally, I never did finish it, and both kits are long gone now. I'll be looking forward to seeing the Eduard stuff on yours, for sure. Iain
Sorry Kev - I missed that - pity it didn't get finished as that would have been a cracking display! This one will be pretty well straight from the box - but I just couldn't leave the railings as they were in the kit... There's already a few months of dipping in and out of work on this - joining the hull was challenging, but got there in the end. Hull was slightly warped, and not the cleanest of mouldings at the joints. Iain LSP_K2
LSP_K2
Still, it's a Titanic, and that's cool with me. I'll look forward to seeing more progress, whenever you update it.
Iain
Cheers buddy - I may be picking your brains from time-to-time! Aiming to get the hull painted this weekend if I can... Iain LSP_K2
LSP_K2
I'm certainly willing to help, and have plenty of references.
LSP_Ron
Looking good I've had this book fore many years. Should be useful when I start my build. I was actually going to start on it yesterday but talked myself out of it because summer is right around the corner and I don't build in the summer months.
