P-51 D early - "Lou IV / Athelene" - Revell

Recommended Posts

Gentlemen,

this is not my first post, but it is my first model I´d like to present.

It´s the famous "Lou IV / Athelene" from Revell.

The German modelers magazine ModellFan asked me in last october to do this model, which is now presented in the may issue of the magazine.

Unfortunately, I faced some fitting problems such as fuselage/wings or fuselage/elevators - not known on earlier models from Revell.

But after a lot of sanding, filling, rescribing I´m pretty fine with the result.

Maybe it was just because I built a pre-series kit.

The kit was built OOB - just added brake lines, some wiring on radio/battery and finally seat belts from Eduard.

Drilling here (exhausts) and there (various intakes) and that´s it.

Waiting until february when the decals finally arrived, I saw Dana´s explanations on the real "Lou IV / Athelene" - just in time NOT to paint the already prepared oliv drab!

I´m fascinated by the dark blue/green and so I did a mix of "dark sea blue/FS 15042" lightened up a little with "blue/FS 35109" from the ModelMaster range.

Base is from Squadron, the Pilot is a Verlinden one.

After all I´m fine with the result as this was a challenging built in a few moments....

Due to regulations I´m allowed just to present these 3 photos.

Hope you like it!

Cheers

Reimund

Thank you very much for your comments!

I appreciate that very much!

But - did you realise there is one thing missing?

It´s the rearview mirror! Did the photos for the magazine and a day later I saw this mirror missing.

Now it´s where it belongs to...

I do  not think the   European theater mustangs did not have the radio antenna  wire.

Hmm - I´m not an expert in Mustangs but that´s an interesting point!

Checked my ´library´ again and it´s hard to tell if they had antenna wires fitted - I guess it´s because of the distance those photos were taken inflight/on the ground.

Most if not all photos don´t show those wires - no matter if ETO, MTO or PTO.

The only photos I have that show some wiring, are the ones in `Squadron P-51D walkaround` but I can not tell, if these photos were taken during/after WWII.

In conclusion it was clear to me, that there was antenna wiring - but I must admit I didn´t spend any thoughts in that....

Do you have more informations about this as there are some more Mustangs in my stash?

Cheers
