Bill Cross Posted December 2, 2023 Posted December 2, 2023 I checked around and there is nothing indicating black market production of these aircraft, just inventory sold to pay off debts.
Yamamoto Posted December 2, 2023 Author Posted December 2, 2023 but what exactly did you check? no information about resumed production?

Dave Williams Posted December 2, 2023 Posted December 2, 2023 (edited) I’m not sure the point of this thread anymore. There are some eBay listings, which may or may not be sketchy, but the OP canceled their order, so we’ll never know if they are knockoffs or not. Of the few links posted, I don’t see anything different than the “warehouse finds/unsold inventory” that have dribbled out over the past couple of years, and none of the prices on the links posted seem to be that great. In fact, there is really nothing to indicate that these are Chinese, or other, knockoffs, so I’m not sure why this keeps coming up. To be fair, I think the reissues have probably cratered the demand for the kits for the collector/ investor market. For actual builders, I suspect almost every one who wants one to build has likely already gotten the kits they want. There are probably a few kits that are still sought after, but these usually aren’t the ones coming up in the “new” batches. As I said before, if people want to find out if they’re legit, buy one of eBay, see what you get, and tell us about it. As for how/why of the WNW shutdown, and what Sir Peter’s involvement or non-involvement in the shutdown was, or his motivation is currently, does it matter? Pup7309 Posted December 3, 2023 Posted December 3, 2023 So it’s confirmed no WNW resurrection and no knock -offs. Bill Cross 1

My source knows more about the market and factories there than anyone I know of, and he says there is no black-market production going on. These kits are showing up because as is usual, the plastic companies are having financial struggles and are looking to raise cash by selling-off all their backstock. Dave Brewer 1

That would be unlikely, as the IM parts for the WNW kits were made in different Chinese and Asian factories. The decals came from Italy, and the kits were put together, boxed, and shipped from NZ so I doubt that a single Chinese factory would have have complete WNW kits lying around taking up space. atelier.brunt Posted December 5, 2023 Posted December 5, 2023 okay so I am one of those that fell for the ... scam? I was too excited and bought a HB W.12 from this seller "modellbau-shop-fisico" from germany, without looking thoroughly enough. There would have been telltale signs! The seller advertised the product as Wingnut Wings / KOTARE... which doesnt make sense anyway (the Kotare bit). The other fishy things, which I should have noticed, are: - "production start December 2023" - which doesn't make any sense at all, WNW doesn't produce anymore and the molds haven't been sold as far as I know - "delivery at beginning of 2024" - impossible that a product gets produced in Dec 2023 (in china or where ever) and get delivered to the end-customer beginning 2024 right?! - seller has not responded to anything at all, completely ignored everything I wrote/asked untill now - a review says that a box arrived without the ordered product but a 5kg weight in it .... Of course I asked for a refund and all but nothing at all. Even talked with ebay but they say I have to wait and see what turns up... so looks like I will be the unlucky one (or one of them).... damn. BiggTim, europapete and Dave Brewer 1 2

You may be right, but my source knows where all the bodies are buried in the Chinese market (he's a major online etailer), so I'll listen to him until someone can prove him wrong. Christa Posted December 5, 2023 Posted December 5, 2023 Hey Atilier I hope your situation works our OK for you. Have you considered that some of those 'telltale signs' could be linked to second language issues? Also, my recent purchases from Model Monkey are being held until January at my request. Steve will dispatch my bits first week of January 2024, when the Christmas rush has passed. europapete 1

I bought it without reading everything. And then I became suspicious. I wrote to the seller and he didn't reply right away. did you pay for it with PayPal? if so, report it to PayPal. I did that and then the seller reacted and returned the money the next day… Edited December 5, 2023 by Yamamoto europapete 1
