Because the bean counters stepped in a put a stop to it. We'll never know the specifics, but in essence, Wingnut Wings was not PJ's personal company, but part of the larger Wingut group (which includes Wingnut Films and TVAL). I'm sure the money men saw the model kit business as a drain on the group's resources, and pushed for closure. And I'm guessing that PJ's agreement was reluctant.

Who knows. The bean counters could have been writing it off somehow. There was something in NZ press about tax money going into these ventures. Maybe his reputation was more important. Not making money cut losses put it on ice until it all blows over. Take it up again if and when you care to. The life of a billionaire filmmaker can be interesting. We got a part of his passion project. 
For the future and China and new kits who knows but as mentioned sounds like a scam. If they have kits on hand you could try it with PayPal to get money back but not in advance.

reporting it to ebay won't do anything. the problem is that we don't have evidence. I thought I would find out something here, but so far all I've learned are assumptions and speculations.

Cheap Wingnut Wings kits? Mmm, buyer beware, always. However, during my short membership of LSP I have bought top quality kits below standard prices, sold top quality kits below standard prices, contributed top quality kits when and where I wanted to, have received top quality kits as gifts, have sent and received parts of kits as gifts - all within LSP's ranks. It has been a blast!

 

From memory, that Wingnut Wings 32801 Felixstowe 2a / Hansa-Brandenberg W 29 Duellist kit cost me US $ 350.00 post free from NZ. Currently the kit selling on the link Yamamoto provided is offered at US $ 380.00. Perhaps the seller is not an assiduous follower of bloated prices among the Wingnut Wings Never Build fraternity or maybe the seller wants rid and is dropping the price. It happens..

 

The quoted postage price for that kit seems low and could not be international, wherever the seller may be..

however, it seems that this seller has more of these sets because they appear and disappear, i.e. they have been sold. I know this because I receive e-mail notifications. As I wrote earlier, I ordered two rare wingnut sets from him but after a week I canceled and he refunded my money immediately .

The only way to know if it’s legit is if someone actually buys and gets the kits.  Cancelling the orders and getting money back just tells you that you’ got your money back.  That said, pricing is all over the place.  The Felixstowe/W.29 duelist combo price seems close to what the original price was, but the W.12 is grossly overpriced at €249.

Sorry, but I purchased four big Trumpeter 1/32nd scale kits from a dude in China and the shipping for each of them was...

Too good to be true? Well, all four arrived in pristine condition. Are they fakes? They look fine to me, and why on earth would someone go to all that trouble to fake a kit worth about $70 on the eBay market.

 

Is the Chinese government subsidizing shipping abroad to pump up the local economy? Maybe.

 

This is fun engaging in our own private tinfoil hat conspiracies, but it's just so much speculation, as what goes on in China tends to stay in China. I will reach out to Raymond Chung from Luckymodel whom I know personally and ask him if he knows anything.

I assure that you’re paying for shipping in the cost of the kits.  They simply raise the price of the kit to count for some of the shipping.  In a lot of cases, I’ve seen the same kit from various Chinese sellers with one price and $3 shipping, and others with a lower price, but higher shipping, and the total price is pretty close in the end.

the problem is that the seller has indicated that delivery will only be possible in the first quarter of 2024, so only then will we find out whether someone got their desired wingnut or not. And there is still quite a lot of time...

That's what I've been told. That's why you can get so much stuff from China (via eBay, AliExpress and the like) for no or very little shipping cost.

Buying and selling was daily business in China when menfolk in my neighbourhood were learning to shave with napped flint.

 

From direct experience I find some LSP members sell unwanted kits at bargain prices. Great! Perhaps non LSP members do too. Who guaranteed that overpriced, unsold Wingnut Wings kits must be bankable treasure forever?
