Uncarina Posted October 20, 2024 Author Posted October 20, 2024 That is so impressive! Your build really is one of a kind. Cheers, Tom ChuckD 1
ChuckD Posted October 23, 2024 Posted October 23, 2024 Thanks, all. We are slooowly getting there. The hardest part - sculpting the figure - is still yet to come.
ChuckD Posted November 8, 2024 Posted November 8, 2024 And we're back. Slowly, bit by bit, the OPR process continues. The process is tedious, but fairly simple. Apply oil paint (here I'm using burnt umber) to strategic areas like pane lines, fuel caps, gaps between flight surfaces, etc. Though I didn't photograph it here, I also used some dots of yellow ochre to add some fading and yellowing tones to the greens. And with a dry, flat brush, blend it out. I don't like to use thinner here as I find that no matter how little I use, it thins the oils too much and leads to streaking. I've started some basic streaking behind some of the hinges. And, as is often the case, some of the oil work here looks much more stark in the photos than it does in person. A couple dark splotches were added in accordance with reference photos. The OPR work is more or less done on the green surfaces. Last night, I started the OPR work on the neutral gray portions, starting with the bomb bay and gear doors. Below the bottom door has been treated while the upper has not. Reference photos show that the Flash is a very dirty aircraft with the inspection panels particularly dirty. Below, the outer panel of the wing has been treated and it's easy to see the effects of the oils. This is just the first of the weathering treatments. Enamels will likely be next. This is generally how the process starts. And how it ends. Here, the left wing has been completed. Again, there's more weathering work coming that will help tie all of this together. Enamels, airbrush, some more oils, and pastels will help bring the flash to life. Shoggz, TankBuster, blackbetty and 19 others 22
themongoose Posted November 8, 2024 Posted November 8, 2024 Your tutorial is much appreciated! That’s very helpful and I think I might be able to re-create this. It will definitely change the way my modeling looks. ChuckD and Troy Molitor 2
JayW Posted November 8, 2024 Posted November 8, 2024 Awesome Tom - I think you are nearing the finish line! Troy Molitor and ChuckD 2

It will definitely change the way my modeling looks. I learned about the process from Michael Rinaldi’s TankArt books. He covers the process in depth there. In fact, OPR is the primary focus of the whole series. If you want to know more about the process, that’s the best resource hands down. Troy Molitor 1
