Peter-

I have seen a video on youtube within the last six months showing a crew climbing into the DO-17 and the compartment from inside. No idea where but it was obviously one from just before BoB with some crews training, take-offs and landings.

Will try to find and post a link....

Good grief, Peter, this is beyond belief.

Unfortunately WWII subjects are not really my cup of tea (otherwise my limited modelling funds would go to you, Sir), but I would so like to see one of your creations in the flesh. I will need to plan a trip to Telford one of theses days ...

Cheers

It's labeled a Do215, but it's an early prototype that's VERY similar to the Do17.

A year or two ago I wanted to find images or drawings of the crew entry hatch/ladder so that I could model it open.  Do you think I could find one between my small library and the internet?  No sir...  not one.

Hi Gazzas - I have quite a few drawings and photo's of the door - there were at least 3 tyoes from what I can tell - here is one, if you need any just shout :)

I meant I wonder if they compare notes with you on the design process or If the folks there might actually be fans of the product or customers at all?? Mark loves this early WWII stuff and I would have thought the Defiant would be on HIS wishlist!

hey Rog, not so much compare notes, I mean I talk to Radu quite often who is one of their top designers (along with other mfrs) and ask advice on design stuff, but Mark is definately a fan and we talk about kits we want to do and will definately deconflict our roadmaps :) He wanted to buy a Defiant at Telford, but I refused and sent one when I got home, they can also see how 3D is changing the art of the possible..

..absolutely tons of detail in the U/C bays, but I can't touch that until I get the IM parts designed...

We all know what to expect from Airscale! :piliot:

Indeed.

It's quite a large rod for his back. ;)

I have little doubt that standards will be maintained in perpetuity so hopefully our collective expectations and understandable excitement won't be a burden for Peter.

We remain the happy recipients of his passion and talent. Long may it continue

My take on Airscale is the unsurpassed quality of product will keep it running well, with what I suspect is his business model of mixed 3D print parts and outsourced injection moulding for larger parts, will see the venture continue for as long as the owner wishes to do so.

As for our collective excitement etc... He brought that on himself! No sympathy for him on that! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 (last sentence is lighthearted Mr. Airscale! 😛)

Im not sure there is any company out there that is more committed to accuracy than Airscale is.

I believe that is in part what people are paying for, unparalleled accuracy, fidelity and detail. In IMHO it's what separates Peter from other manufacturers.

Its also of note that it is known that Luftwaffe subjects are some of the hardest subjects to get right in large detailed model form.

Quite a feat from my point of view.

Thank you for the drawing!  That will prove useful as I have a few Do's in the stash.  I'd be grateful for a couple pics if you have the time.  Your images look amazing, BTW.  The makings of a must-have!

Highly skilled CAD work Peter.  My youngest son, who is a works with CAD as part of his profession, said that your work is some of the finest he has ever seen.

thank you chaps, I am blushing, that is very kind of you to say

I do try very hard to develop a brand aura that means people can count on the highest level of research, accuracy and quality. I don't always succeed of course, but that is the guiding principle and it is embedded in everything I do in the hobby. For something like the Dornier it is even more relevant as it will be the only one, you have no choice, if you want a 1/32 Do17 that is not a bare vacform then whatever I do in the next 6 months is it, and possibly forever will be - I feel that responsibility :)

So, no pretty renders today, but some fairly important progress. the wings and nacelle are defined as IM parts and are with the mouldmakers for assessment - likely lots will fail relating to thickness, draft angle, separation issues etc but it is a start.

i haven't decided how the airframe will be chopped up yet as the max part length is 30cm so for now it is all about getting the surfaces, both inner and outer defined, and where there is some integration, like the nacelle into the wing how that is created to be a reliable, simple, clean fit..
