thank you folks :)

My little Dornier Werke has turned out another set of parts... this time painted for me by my great friend Leo at our Tangmere club masterclass where he used it as a demo mule to teach us his secrets..

..these are pretty rough 3D printed parts with no filler or prep - in the kit they will be IM

I am so thrilled with how it looks :)

“In the kit they will be IM”

I gather from that statement Peter, you intend to do a kit on this as well?

I may have passed on your first two offerings, but if you decide to market a 1/32 Do 17…  I’m all in!  I hope that is the case!

well, I returned to the Dornier today and found a bit of an issue...

the file with all the airframe just doesn't exist - I have no idea how, or why or what I did, but it has gone.. i still have the engine, cockpit U/C and tail, but ..the fuselage and in particular the three solid weeks of unmitigated Rhino agony I spent trying to get the fuselage/wing fillets have just evaporated

I am super confused...

I have had a new laptop since but everything is on the cloud and the old one just has the same files stored. It is not even as if I saved something else over it in the rush to get stuff ready for Telford, the file just is not there

I don't know if this is a setback, or terminal, but the idea of doing all that all over again needs serious contemplation :hmmm:, all I know is I am very forking pissed off

Oh Peter,

I really feel for you...

Can you contact whoever is providing your cloud storage to see if they can recover anything from backups?

Are you using a Mac, Peter? If so, perhaps you have a Time Machine backup to refer to?

Kev

That was my first thought too.

Gutted to hear this Peter.

Take a deep breath, have a stiff whisky...and then another :)

Hope you find the files.

If you know the last day you saved the file, do a search for all files created on that day, including temporary ones. There is a rather high probability one version of that file is still existing if you saved it several times.

And/or, if I may suggest, look for other files in the same time frame that show abnormal weight.

okay, okay, it's been an odd 24hrs..

yesterday I opened literally every Rhino file I have looking for this damned file - hundreds of them...

today I went back to basics and went back to the Do17 folder and opened the 3 files I thought it must have been one of before I must have done something to it. crudely titled Do17, Do17-Z and Fuselage Outline...

Fuselage outline opens in a front view which looked like an early attempt I made to define the primary outline curves - I had opened the file 5 times before, I had zoomed around it, checked for hidden objects and ruled it out as the master file

It is not - it IS the master file, I just didn't recognise how I had coloured the surfaces and had merged hidden and visible surfaces into one view, so everything was all lumped together..

I am officially senile, and this project is back on track :)
